Four Ways To Update Your Garden On A Budget

I’m not always the biggest fan of the outdoors. I am far more an indoor hermit, but when we get our own home I want to try and change that a bit. While the garden won’t be one of our first priorities we will want to make some changes so it’s useable. I love the idea of having space to have a BBQ and sit and do my work in the sunshine. Or maybe even relax with a good book. There will be parts of the house we do invest in but here are some ways to update the garden on a budget.

Paint your fences

Sprucing up what you already have is a sure-fire way to save money. An old crumbling fence can make a garden look run down. Replacing fences can be pretty expensive so unless what you have is broken a lick of paint can make a huge difference. I love the idea of painting the fences all one colour with a bright coloured section. Having something bright would make a big difference in how the garden would look.

You can get really good value fence paint so this doesn’t need to be an expensive job.

Get some comfortable seating

My number one priority is to have somewhere comfortable to relax in. Hammocks and hanging chairs would make a great option and would encourage me to spend more time there. I love the idea of sitting back in a hammock with a good book and a drink in the sunshine. Although double hammocks would be a great option so Luke could join me. Although I think it would be too comfortable and we’d just fall asleep.

Unless we have some big strong trees we’d probably need hammocks with stands so it can stand on its own.

Power wash the patio/ decking

A lot of people may look at their patio or decking and think it looks old and tired and in need of a replacement. But actually giving it a good power wash could be all it needs. For me, my dad has a power washer so it would be free to do. But you can rent things like this if you don’t want to invest in buying one.

With decking, you can look at staining or painting the decking after you have cleaned it to give it a new lease of life. Even if you’re eventually looking at replacing it this could work in the interim. I really want to have a good decked or paved around where a table and chairs would sit. And somewhere to host our BBQs.

Get some new garden lighting

Just lighting your garden in the right way can make a big difference. I’m quite lucky that Luke is an electrician so can get lighting pretty cheap. But there are a lot of options like solar lighting which doesn’t have to be expensive. I love the idea of having a string of lights like mini lanterns or fairy lights strung over fencing.

By adding some lighting you’ll create a good atmosphere in the garden and it will be a great place to sit in the evening time.
