May 2019 Round Up – Bank Holidays Galore & The Start Of Festival Season

June 10, 2019
Me outside the Cineworld Watford

May was a busy old month for me. And while it’s been a bit hectic keeping on top of things, it’s been a great month. Busy both in terms of work and pleasure. But I’m far happier when I have a bulging calendar and a good to do list. It gives me direction. Although sometimes I do need to just take some relaxing time for myself.

The weekend started off with bank holiday number one where me and Luke headed to Cheltenham for the day on Saturday. We had a nice relaxing day which included food and Avengers. We were meant to spend the whole day exploring Bristol on Sunday but things didn’t go as planned. There was a run going on in the city which meant the roads were all blocked. And parking was non-existent. Thankfully one of Luke’s best friends lives in Bristol so we met him for lunch which was nice.

Catching up with friends and family

We had another family birthday at the start of the month, my aunties. We all headed out to the Harvester and had a nice meal together. I’m really close to my mum’s mum and sister so see them a lot. And it was nice to see everyone for the evening.

Then near the start of the month, I managed to see my friend who has just had her second baby. Her little one was just a few weeks old and so adorable. I usually think babies look like aliens, but she certainly didn’t. And she was so peaceful if babies were always like that I’d consider it.

Movie Going

I took full advantage of my Cineworld Unlimited Card this month and saw four movies. Avengers was a re-watch right at the start of the month. And just a great movie!

Then I saw three all in quite a quick succession over the later Bank Holiday. Me and my friend went to see Aladdin which I really enjoyed. It was close enough to the original for the nostalgia, but far enough away to be new. Then we also saw the Secret Life of Pets 2 which was really fun.

I took my parents to see Rocketman on the later bank holiday which I really enjoyed. I didn’t know all that much about Elton John so it was really interesting. Especially considering he grew up so close to where I live.

Festivals and live music

There wasn’t a lot of live music for me until the final week when it all kicked off. The Sunday of the later Bank Holiday was Slamdunk Festival. I’ve been going for 10 year’s now and it’s always a great day. For us, this year’s lineup wasn’t too strong so I didn’t love it as much as I usually do but I’m still glad I went. I got to see Simple Plan, Plain White T’s and Gallows which were all great performances.

The following week it was time for my favourites; Bring Me The Horizon. They played a really small show at The Dome in Tuffnell Park on Wednesday night. I was lucky enough to get a ticket last minute and get to experience it. They blow me away every time but this show was truly special.

Then it ended with All Points East festival on 31st May with Bring Me headlining. The whole day was fun as I got to catch up with a lot of people. And I also managed to see Yonaka, Vukovi, While She Sleeps, Architects and so many more bands. Thankfully the weather was beautiful as well.

Blogging

There’s been a bit of change going on blog-wise for me. After toying about being a bit more niche-focused I decided to go for it in May. I am now covering a lot more money/ budgeting/ saving posts. There’s still going to be lifestyle, beauty, fashion and travel. But I’m going to be focusing on things from a money point of view. You may be starting to see a shift both here and on my social media.

On my Instagram (mainly through stories) I’ll be sharing deals and things I spot. So keeps your eyes opened if you’re looking for bargains.

I’ve also started my Blogger 2 Boss 30-day course to help get into some more freelance writing. So far I’ve done week 1 and it’s been so helpful with ideas on how to sell yourself, where to pitch etc. And I’m just about to start on pricing which is going to be really interesting. For more info on the course click here.

Everything else

I’m really trying to get a little bit fitter so I’ve started doing more walking. I’ve finally got back into the habit of wearing my Fitbit to track my walking. And I went out three times this month for 1-2 hour walks. Me and my dad are trying to go once a week when we’re both off and it’s been nice to just get up and go. We’ve been going about 9.30am on a Sunday morning which gets me out of bed. But I still get the whole day as well.

We finally got around to doing a car boot sale and it went so well. Originally we were going to do two separate ones but we managed to get rid of so much that we don’t need to. We were so happy with how much we made as well. My money is going aside for when we go to Wales next month as a bit of spending money which should help.

Quite a busy month I’d say. Good luck with the walking. I try to walk once a week with a friend, but I also try to build walking into my week by walking to certain places that I visit regularly.

It’s a shame as I didn’t manage it last weekend as the weather was bad and I am away this weekend, but I’ll get there x

It has certainly been an eventful month for you, I hope June is giving you a little break! Jealous you have been to some festivals, our local music festival isn’t on this year, so need to make up for that! Sim x

Sounds like a pretty good month to me! I really want to watch Aladdin & Rocketman too! I struggle with making time for exercise so we’ve been going on hour long walks early Sunday mornings too! It’s a nice way to start the day I think!

I totally agree, it gives you a reason to get up and starts the day off nicely. You need to see both of those movies as they’re so good x

I’m trying to get fitter too, I keep putting it off though! I have lost 5 stone recently too but I cheated on that with a gastric sleeve. I wish I could just get motivated!
