Decorative Ideas For Our Future Home – Bedrooms & Office

We’re only a few months away from properly being able to view houses and I’m so excited. We’ve really started thinking harder about the things we want for our future home. I have so many lists full of the kitchen appliances we’re planning to splurge on. Then there’s furniture that we’ll need to get, although this is harder until we truly know the size of the rooms. But we’ve started talking about decorative ideas so we have a bit of an idea about the direction that we’re hoping to go with.

In this post, I’m going to run over some of the ideas we’ve got for the bedrooms and our individual rooms. I’m going to have an office in the new house which means space to work which isn’t the sofa or dining table. And somewhere proper I can take my photos. And Luke will have a man cave where he can relax and play his PC/ Playstation etc.

Master bedroom

This is actually the one room we haven’t spoken too much about. I think as we know we’ll spend more time in the living room/ kitchen this is where we’ve concentrated our ideas on. Our king-sized ottoman bed which I miss so much is a mid wood colour so we’re going to try and match other furniture into this. We’ve been in a double for 9 months now and I can’t wait to get our king-sized bed back. Plus all the storage underneath is a godsend.

The overall plan is to have three grey walls and statement wallpaper behind the bed to create a focal point. We’ve seen some stunning Cole & Son paper from Chapel Interiors and while it’s pricey we won’t need much for one wall. And then I can style up the room with different colours depending on the time of the year. I am pretty certain I’ll be one of those people who has different cushions and throws for each season. Some beautiful burnt orange for Autumn, burgundy for wintertime and then some brighter colours for Spring/ Summer.

We have one Ikea wardrobe and plan to just get more of these to create our own version of fitted wardrobes. So there will be a lot of wood and grey.

Spare bedroom

From the off, we said we’d love to have a room in our house which is yellow. Now when I say yellow I mean a lighter cornflower yellow or mustard. Not the bright sunshine yellow as that’s a bit sickly. Thinking about our house the spare bedroom seemed like a logical place to do this so that’s the theme we’re going down.

Grey works really well alongside yellow so this is the colour palette that we’re planning to go along. I do want to throw in one other colour so we might end up with a dark green as well. We’re planning on doing one wall of abstract wallpaper behind the headboard of the bed to create a focal point and then go for a grey on the rest of the walls. This means we can then inject lots of colour in with mustard/ yellow accessories. I’m definitely thinking a nice cosy throw and some velvet cushions to bring in some texture. Although I think we’ll go quite plain with the bedding so it doesn’t clash with the wallpaper too much.

We’re going to put in the bedside tables we had in our old bedroom as they’re a lovely dark wood and black design. So we’re going to keep that going with the furniture. We’d love to get TV beds so that guests can watch TV in their own comfort. This crushed velvet TV bed is one of my favourites, but it’s whether we can justify the cost.

Office

Our individual rooms are the only rooms I don’t have to worry about someone else’s tastes and I can just go for what I love. That’s not to say that me and Luke have crazy different tastes but this will be my haven. I’m planning on having quite light walls especially if I use it to take photos in. But I do want a mid-pink wall behind where my desk will be as a pop of colour. The overall colour palette I’m going for is pink, grey, rose gold with a little splash of dark teal.

I already have a dark grey desk from Ikea which will stand out great against a pink wall. I’ve already got this stunning chair from made.com on my wish list. And having been to the warehouse and sat on it I’m happy with my decision. I’m hoping I’ll have enough room for a single or double pull out bed to give us more space for people to stay. That’s another item from made.com which is on my wish list.

I already picked up a rug in the Spring Next sale which has a geometric rose and grey vibe. And then I have a dark teal cushion from Matalan which I’ll tie in with a few other darker tones in the room.

I am also deliberating on adding a bit of art onto the wall, purely to make the space a bit less “officey.” Sites like https://www.aspectwallart.com/ sell plenty of art stickers and decals and it’s easy enough to put on the wall, so it doesn’t have to take all day. Plus they work great on bright pink walls for that little bit of something extra to brighten up a dull home office!
