These days there is immense cultural pressure to work hard and live an aspirational lifestyle. Easier said than done! If you feel like you spend most of your time on the treadmill of a 9-5 job simply trying to pay your bills, it can be hard to see how you can enjoy your life, let alone live a luxurious lifestyle. These tips will help you change your thinking and live the life you want NOW.

Adopt a Luxury Mind-set

It’s easy to feel as if your grip on the life you want is slipping away, but sometimes a little shakeup in your habits and thinking can make all the difference. Whether you dream of trying out a new beauty treatment or sipping a cocktail on the beach with your BFF, living your best life is more about mindset than it is about objective reality. The first step to adopting a more positive mind-set is to practice mindfulness about your spending habits, so you know where your money is going every month and how all your purchases make you feel. Next, it’s about cultivating a powerful does of gratitude for everything you already have. Once you’ve got these key elements of your mind-set down, you’re on your way to feeling more in control.

Work Out What You Can Sacrifice

Living that champagne lifestyle without running out of money every month comes down (in part) to sacrificing things you don’t really need so that you can afford to splash out on treats that will really impact your happiness. Think about the purchases that you make every month that you could do without? For example, could you get a smaller apartment? Could you rent your office out as a bedroom? Wouldn’t a used Mercedes Benz S Class be just as amazing as a new model? Do you need to stop off at the coffee shop every morning for a latte on your way to work, when you could just make a coffee when you arrive at the office? And what about your habit of buying a new swimsuit every time you go on holiday? Could you mix and match old swimsuits instead, or have a holiday apparel clothes swap with your friends? Do you need an HBO subscription?

Your Savings Will Add Up

While these spending reductions and substitutions may seem insignificant day-to-day, you’ll be blown away by how fast they add up over the course of a week or month. A spendings tracker app will help you keep tabs on your savings so you can watch your piggy bank growing. If you get the urge, you can use these savings now and again to splash out on a pair of shoes or travel experience that gives you that millionaire feeling! (On the other hand, once you’ve adjusted to a more frugal lifestyle, you may not feel the need to splurge, anyway.)

Even if your salary isn’t very high, it is possible to live a plush lifestyle with limited means. These tips will help you adjust your habits and mind-set to carve out a little bit of luxury without sacrificing too much, or breaking the bank.
