We don’t all have the luxury of living in massive pads full of mammoth rooms, obscene amounts of square footage, and acres of space. Most of us have to do with a home that is a little more modest. While you aren’t complaining, you do want to enjoy your home and its decor a little more. If your walls are looking a little tired, and you could do with shifting some of your clutter to help your small rooms appear more spacious, you need to read on to discover some space-saving decor ideas for your home.

Bedrooms

If you have a relatively cosy master bedroom, you might be concerned about storage. Firstly, you cannot buy yourself a king-size bed no matter how much you want one. This may leave you very little room to maneuver around your bed. Instead, opt for a double bed, or a three-quarter sized if you can get away with it. As for storage, go for a wardrobe that doesn’t have doors that swing open. The latest Rauch wardrobes have sliding doors that won’t encroach on more modest living spaces. Consider stool-like bedside tables that appear less bulky underneath yet will still provide you with plenty of tabletop space. If you can utilize a wardrobe that has internal drawers you won’t need a chest of drawers. If you have the money, go for integrated or fitted storage for your bedroom, as this sort of furniture will utilize every ounce of space, even under the eaves.

Storage

For your tech and books and other paraphernalia that you need, you have to store it somewhere. While you could store this on a bookcase, it is still on show creating the illusion of clutter. Instead, consider the joys of an ottoman footstool for your living room. These are perfect to hide away any clutter that you use on a daily basis. When visitors come over you don’t have to worry about squirrelling everything away.

Make sure your kitchen has the sorts of units fit for your lifestyle. If you enjoy a tipple, ensure that you have an integrated wine cooler. For those pots, get a pan drawer or two. And if you love rustling up a gastronomic storm in the kitchen, ensure you have an integrated larder cupboard. This prevents too many items from being on show, especially if your kitchen is a little lacking in square footage.

Clutter

If you find that you are something of a hoarder, you need to remove some clutter from your immediate environment. This will immediately allow you to reclaim your space. Go room by room and put anything that you haven’t used or looked at in the past twelve months into a box. This can then go to a charity shop, be sold online or be stored in your attic space. You aren’t having to get rid of your items; you simply need to remove them from the show. Doing this will not only clear your surroundings, but it will also have a positive effect on your mental well-being.

Forget making do with a cramped interior and follow this simple guide to free up some much-needed space.
