Autumnal Sunshine – October 2019 Overview

November 1, 2019
Me on Baby Beach in Aruba

I’ve been avidly planning for Christmas for quite a while now, but it seems to have just crept up on me. I can’t believe in 2 month’s time we’ll be in a new year, and a new decade. It’s kind of scary, but at the same time pretty exciting. I have a feeling 2020 is going to be my best one yet. But I’m not wishing the time away quite yet.

As Luke upgraded his phone last month I got his phone as an upgrade. So I now have the iPhone X and I love it. The camera is better than my Iphone 8 Plus. So much so that all my photos from a recent press trip were taken on my phone!

Here’s a little about what I got up to during the month of October.

October sunshine

Anyone who follows me on social media may know that I spent 6 days in Aruba in the middle of October. It was as part of  press trip with Aruba Tourism UK and was very much a pinch me moment. In my eyes I’m still quite a low key blogger so getting to go on such an amazing trip was incredible. I had a wonderful (almost) week exploring the island and trying to avoid going red in the sunshine. I didn’t quite manage it though, my pale English skin isn’t used to 30 degree heat.

I’ll be doing a whole array of blog posts over the next month so keep your eyes peeled for them. Or head over to my Instagram if you want some wanderlust. I’ve also decided that although we weren’t really going to be doing holidays in 2020 due to the house I’m going to go to Bali. A trip has come up which I can’t say no to so I’m putting a bit of money away each month so I can justify it. And I can’t wait to get it booked.

All the food

Obviously I ate out all the time while I was away and some of the fresh seafood we had was unreal. But I managed to squeeze in quite a bit before and after my trip as well. I had two trips to Harvester, one with my parents while Luke was away and one with Luke when he was back. It’s always a nice reasonably pried meal. I also made my second trip to Las Iguanas with my friend and I got to sample quite a few more cocktails.

Then I also had a girlie catch up where we all took our own food and got to see my friends new house. I don’t see my old school friends as much as I’d like so nights like this I treasure.

Cinema trips and movies

I didn’t manage to get to the cinema much, but at the start of October I did a double bill. During the day I took my mum and nan to see Judy, and I quite enjoyed it. Renee played such a great part. Then later that day I went to see the Joker. I was expecting a dark movie which was a little gruesome and that’s exactly what I got. The movie was great and he played such an incredible portrayal of the Joker that I would love to see it again.

Our Cineworld passes run out in December so we need to decide what we’re going to do with them. Either renew for a year (if we can afford it) or get a rolling monthly contract. On the plane over to Aruba I watched two movies I had missed at the cinema earlier this year; Tolkien and Stan & Ollie. The former was alright, although nothing special. But Stan & Ollie was really good and I’m so glad I gave it a watch.

Luke going away

At the start of the month Luke headed up to Scotland for a few days of work. It was odd being at my parents without him as I hadn’t done that since we moved back in. And then again at the end of the month he headed back but this time for 4 nights. This was a stranger one as I’d only been back from Aruba for two nights which was a shame but it’s all for a good cause.

Next steps with our mortgage

We finally submitted Luke’s 2018/19 taxes which meant I could send it over to our mortgage advisor. I’m just waiting for my updated wages to come through in December and then we can get a mortgage in principle which is very exciting. We’ve seen a bunch of properties on Right Move which if they’re around in December we will go and view.

Our savings are going in the right direction which is always a good thing so let’s see where the next few months take us.

So jealous of your recent activities – especially the press trip! I can’t wait to hear all about it. I’m hopefully planning to head to Bali next year too if funds allow – what trip are you going on? I’d love to know more.

I’m also scouring right move constantly at the moment as my boyfriend and I are moving in together early next year – but he keeps telling me off for looking too early as the properites won’t be available anymore by the time we move, haha x

I’m going to do Kirsty Leanne’s trip to Bali too, it wouldn’t happen to be the same one would it? Ohh that’s so exciting for you and your boyfriend x

How did you get such a great collab to Aruba?! I feel like such a small time blogger too, I get really inspired hearing about press trips from people who don’t have billions of followers lol and I’m still on the iphone 6!! I think you’ve convinced me to upgrade.

I feel very priviliged and happy that the company had the same belief in me that I have and it was amazing. I am so happy with my iPhone and the pictures are so good that I don’t always feel that I need my camera with me x

I thought I recognised that beach! I spent five days in Aruba two Octobers ago and loved every single minute of it. Aruba will always hold a special place in my heart!

What a beautiful beach that is, would love to go and visit there one day.
Fingers crossed that the properties you like will still be there in December.

Your October sounds fab Rhian, especially the trip to Aruba! I’ve heard such great things about the island and even better that it was part of a blogging trip!

I agree with you about Joker too, it was a brilliant film albeit an uncomfortable watch at times.

Your stories from Aruba looked amazing, what a fabulous opportunity! Good luck with the mortgage, I’m looking to move at the moment and having to go through mortgages all over again is such a pain at times x

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah it is a pain, although as I sold my old flat and am doing this totally separate I think it’s a little easier. Good luck with yours x

I enjoyed following your trip to Aruba. As you know I was lucky enough to go on this press trip last year, and it brought back so many good memories. It’s such a lovely island, with amazing clear water and excellent sightseeing. Take me back now!

I have an iPhone X and love it but my husband just upgraded to the 11 Pro and that is even better still. Not sure I can wait to upgrade mine again
