One of the best things about getting your own space is having complete control over how you decorate it. And whether you’re planning to purchase your first home or you’ve been in one for a while, it’s always good to review and add to your decor sometimes. With 2020 now well on it’s way, it may be time to make one of your new year goals to find cost-effective ways of giving your home a brand new look. Because true style doesn’t have to come with a huge price tag!

Add A New Colour

There’s no better way to change the mood of a room than by changing the colour on the walls, and it’s actually a very cost effective way to add some personality. It’s an easy DIY solution and if you don’t want to do a whole room, you can choose to add a shot of your favourite shade with an accent wall.

Frame Some Prints

Adding a personal touch is always a good idea, so getting some of your favourite photos printed up and framed or choosing a canvas that you love is a purse-friendly method of creating your own style. Whether you go for one large print or a collection of images in smaller square frames, you can really jazz up those walls – in fact, you can even purchase a pre-made gallery wall template if you’re unsure where to begin.

Add Some Statement Lighting

Lighting is another design game changer that has a huge impact on the feel of your home, but isn’t super-expensive to change. There are lots of interiors websites offering directional, design-led lighting that doesn’t cost the earth. Or if you don’t fancy replacing your main light, you could always consider adding some cosy lamps to light up dark corners and create a more intimate feel.

Sign Up To Some Sales Alerts

One of the good things about refreshing your decor in the new year is all the January sales going on at the time. Get prepared by signing up for the newsletters of your favourite homeware retailers to get alerted to any New Year bargains. Websites like ShopStyle will allow you to create a sales alert for products from hundreds of brands, so you can find out about what you need.

Shop Pre-loved Pieces

When it comes to interiors, vintage is most definitely chic, so looking for pre-loved items of furniture is not only stylish but can save you money and is also kinder to the planet. Sites like Gumtree and eBay can help you track down things close to you, or there may be a charity shop in your town that sells furniture. Think creatively when looking at a piece – if you love the shape, but something is scuffed or tattered, it can easily be revived by re-covering in a new fabric or with a lick of paint and some new handles. It’s also a brilliant way to get something unique for your home – plus, a lot of older furniture is much better made than modern flat-pack equivalents.
