Ways To Save Money On Your Clothes

I am a sucker for clothes and spend more money than I should on new things for my wardrobe. Any excuse for a new dress, or a new outfit and I’m there. And clothing shopping can be quite an expensive habit, especially when you factor in shoes and handbags as well. I’m pretty good at keeping an eye on vouchers to help save money on your clothing purchases. But I do still spend more than I should.

If you’re like me here are some ways you can save money on your clothes:

Buy from clothing catalogues

When I was younger my mum always used to buy from interest-free catalogues and still does to this day. And it’s something I’ve only discovered in recent years as most things I did was online. With the interest-free catalogues, it allows you to buy everything you need and only pay for what you keep. And what you do keep you can usually spread over monthly instalments, or pay in bits. This makes it far more affordable. And it would allow you to make one larger purchase at the start of the season for new summer/ winter clothes without spending money all the time.

Save money on your clothes by going to outlet malls

If you’re after some higher quality or branded items then outlet malls are a great place to go. Me and Luke went to Bicester Village last Black Friday and saved quite a lot of money on some items like trainers, clothes and a handbag for me. I don’t really care what’s this season, and if I like it I like it so outlet malls are great for me. We’re going to Edinburgh in January and are already planning a trip to Livingstone to the outlet malls. This may allow you to get an item you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.

New Look

Don’t be afraid of charity shops and car boot sales to help save money on your clothes

Sometimes I think buying second hand can have quite a stigma attached to it. But buying from a charity shop or a car boot sale doesn’t mean you can’t find brand new items. I’ve done quite a few car boot sales myself and sold brand new clothing with tags, and people have managed to pick up an amazing bargain. This is something I want to push myself to do more of in the new year as not only does it help save money but it’s good for the environment.

Sell clothes you don’t wear

In my old flat I used to have so much hanging space full of clothes. But despite how much I had I would generally wear the same 10-20% of my wardrobe. So I like to have a wardrobe clear out twice a year when the seasons change. And anything I’ve changed my mind on, not worn in a long time gets sold. Sometimes you don’t get a lot of money for the clothes, especially if you sell on eBay. But you’ll have made something, and someone else will get joy out of the clothes.

Do you spend a lot of money on your clothes?

I’ve been much more aware of how many clothes I’m buying now, and really trying to keep to buying good quality clothes that will last. So finding an outlet or like you say going to charity shops is an ideal way of getting good value for good products.

I always find amazing clothes in charity shops! I’ve been working in one for five years so I know that there’s nothing wrong with the donations – there’s some real bargains to be found!

Some great ideas here, to be honest, I only found out about Outlet stores quite late but so glad I know about them now as I have saved so much money buying kid’s clothes there

These are all great ideas, I definitely need to clear out the clothes I can’t and don’t want to wear any more and if I make a little bit of money as well as clearing space thats a nice bonus!

I like to shop in Primark as the clothes are really cheap and also I like to look for a few bargains in charity shops

Yeah Primark can be good for basics, but sometimes I find it doesn’t last as long so I end up buying more x

We have a designer outlet near us. It’s brilliant being able to buy clothes at significantly reduced rates

Great ideas! Only the last year or so have I really started looking properly in charity shops and have found some great finds! New clothes can be SO expensive nowadays and it just seems crazy to spend so much money on something when you can buy it preloved or second hand at a fraction of the cost!

I very rarely buy clothes so its always a shock how much they actually cost. I do need to invest in some new ones

I’ve never shopped in a catalogue before but I remember my childhood friends mum always used to buy their clothes from them. I love a good charity shop, I think they’re definitely the way forward!

Over the past few years I have been very careful about buying new items of clothing. So when I do make a purchase I want to ensure I’m getting the best deal

These are all great tips! I’ve never been to an outlet before, but I’d love to. I’d also not heard about catalogues either, they sound interesting! I shop second-hand a lot, because it saves money, but also helps charities and the planet.

I am still not brave enough for a carboot share for clothes shopping but I do love nipping into a charity store for some clothes.

I love getting clothes from charity shops – we get some really nice stuff in our local ones. I also do a lot of catalogue shopping.
