We’re getting to the final stages of our house buying process. The paperwork is in, the mortgage has been accepted and the solicitors are just doing their thing. So we’ve started to think about what we’re going to do when we get the keys. For us, we’re in a privileged position to still be able to live at home while we do the renovations/ work which means we can move in when it’s pretty much done. Luke is thinking about the bigger things like wiring, plumbing and sockets. But I’m thinking about cosmetic work like wallpaper in our new home, or colours for the room. I have so many Pinterest boards for interiors ideas it’s getting a little out of control.
In my old flat, I had some feature wallpaper in the two bedrooms but it wasn’t anything exciting. I just popped to B&Q and picked from there, I just needed something against the otherwise white walls. So for the wallpaper in our new home, we want to think a bit more about it. We love the idea of shabby chic wallpapers or something with a really good pattern. There are three areas of the house we plan to add wallpaper so I thought I’d run through our choices.
This is the only room we’re going to full wallpaper as we’re using it as our room to go a bit crazy. The downstairs toilet is just off the little porchway as you come in. And I love the idea of people walking straight in there and thinking that it looks a bit mad. But then seeing the rest of the house isn’t quite like that. We’ve decided on a jungle style theme with a black heated radiator/ towel rail and brushed gold fittings. I got a monkey toilet roll holder and toilet roll ring which I love. And we’re planning to put some animal-inspired artwork up as well.
So to go with the jungle theme we’re thinking of some sort of palm or leaf print. The one above is called Vale and is a banana leaf pattern which is so pretty with the different shades of green. And against the brushed gold in the room, this will really stand out.
Now the master bedroom is the main one we haven’t 100% decided on a theme for. Now in our master bedroom, there won’t be too much wallpaper as the room has fitted wardrobes and cupboards all around the bed. So it will only be a small area behind our bed and bedside tables which will need wallpaper.
We love the idea of some shade of purple as it’s a colour we both love and one of the ones I really love is Ebru which is above. It’s a bit more of a bluey purple than a straight out purple but I love the pattern. As the wardrobes are white (at the moment) this will contrast really well as the wallpaper in our new home bedroom.
When we were discussing colours for our new home a while back we both agreed we’d love some yellow. But when we went room by room certain rooms didn’t feel right for yellow. So we decided on it being the colour in the spare bedroom. At the moment we’re not 100% sure on whether to go bright or mustard yellow. But I can’t stop thinking of the bright bird printed paper above called Audrey.
The wallpaper will be behind the bed so we don’t have to worry about going too bright and it being a hindrance when people are trying to sleep. But we do love the idea of it being bright, fresh and standing out and this is definitely that. The biggest thing will be whether we have the balls to go for something as eye-catching as this. But I’m sure once we’re in the space and spending more time we’ll work out if this is the right wallpaper for our new home.

It is lovely moving into a new home and making it your own with decorating. I love choosing new colour schemes and wallpaper
I love a bold wallpaper! These are great choices and I can’t wait to see the finished result.
How exciting to be sorting it all out. We have one wall wallpapered in our bedroom and it works really well. I love the sound of your crazy downstairs toilet.
I think sometimes it’s nice to have one space to let your crazy ideas run wild x
We currently rent privately and don’t have wallpaper – just painted walls. I’d definitely love wallpaper in some of the rooms instead.
I really like bold wallpaper but the mister not so much, so in the end we went with paint over wallpaper x
I would definitely get that bird print, love it! I like jungle prints for toilets too
We’ve never added wallpaper in any of our homes, partly as neither of us have ever done it so it would be a little trial and error. I do love the pattern you’ve selected for the master bedroom.
We’ve got wallpaper in our living room . Love these designs especially the bold mustard one . It’s absolutely gorgeous and definitely something I’d love in our bedroom as a feature wall 🙂
How exciting, you must be so happy about being able to collect the keys to your new home soon! I love your ideas for wallpapering. We have been redecorating recently and have used wallpaper in the living room and both ours and the kids bedrooms. Its a great way to inject some colour/design etc into a room!
How exciting that you’ll be homeowners soon! I have also always wanted to wallpaper a downstairs loo, there’s just something so posh to me about that!
I love a wall papered downstairs toilet! Ours is too small to take it unfortunately.
I’m currently considering a feature wall in our living room though.
