The Start Of A New Decade And Exciting Year – January Overview

2019 was a pretty great year but I always knew 2020 was destined for even better things. And it’s started off pretty special. For most people January is a pretty shitty month as you’re back to work after the festive period and you’re generally poor. But as my birthday is in January it’s a much nicer month for me. Here’s my January overview and what I got up to.

Major life changes

As I said January has been a pretty epic month. My 30th birthday fell in the middle of the month and I had a lovely birthday. Me and Luke celebrated with a long weekend in Edinburgh, I had a lovely meal with my family at one of my favourite Greek restaurants when I was back and a few meals out with friends which was really special. If you asked me a few years ago about how I felt about turning 30 I wouldn’t have been too happy. But I’ve been really excited as this is the year things fall into place with our house so I don’t mind if I’m older.

The biggest thing for me was when we were in Edinburgh Luke proposed. I had absolutely no idea it was coming as I thought it would have been later in the year if it happened. So he totally nailed the unexpected moment from me and it was everything I could have asked for. It happened in Edinburgh, one of our favourite places and it was super special. We’ve not started thinking about anything yet as we want to sort the house first. But that’s going to be my next big project and I can’t wait.

Then finally the house update is there’s not really an update. The solicitors have everything they need which is good. But it’s just a waiting game now as we’ve done all we can. Part of me wants the keys right now. But the other part of me doesn’t mind if it takes 3-4 weeks as that’s extra saving time. So I don’t think I’ll start chasing until Mid February or so. Then I’ll be getting antsy. But the solicitors just have questions to raise then it’s deposit and contract time which is amazing.

Movies and entertainment

I did really well on the cinema front this month with three movies with Luke and two solo movies. We started off on New Years Day seeing JoJo Rabbit which I loved. It was both hilarious but incredibly moving as well. Then I finally got round to seeing Frozen II which was pretty good. But I have learnt never to go and see a kids movie on a Sunday morning. On my birthday I took myself to see Little Women as a treat and had a great time. It’s made me really want to re-read the book again.

Then nearer the end of the month me and Luke saw both the Gentlemen and Bad Boys for Life. The Gentlemen was an amazing movie with such a great cast and it deserves all of the awards it’s nominated for. Bad Boys was just what I had expected and was pretty funny.

London trips this month

I took two trips into London this month the first was for a show. I finally  got round to seeing The Comedy about a Bank Robbery which as the title suggests was very funny. I’m trying to see more theatre and comedy this year so I’ll be taking advantage of deals on tickets. These ones only cost me £20 through Today Tix!

Then near the end of the month I headed into London with my friend and we finally visited the Barbican Conservatory which was very pretty. And free to walk round! Then we also had afternoon tea as I had a voucher given to me.

What did you get up to in January?

How nice to have a birthday in January. I always thought it would be less fun as it’s right after the holidays but it makes sense. I’ve only watched 1917 in January and really enjoyed it, but I do need to go to the cinema more as I really enjoy it, even on my own.
