Entertainment I’ve Been Loving Lately To Stay Sane

three favourite books

Like pretty much everyone else I have been consuming so much entertainment lately. Watching movies and TV shows and reading books have been a huge part of my life since lockdown started. Especially since we went into self-isolation and haven’t been visiting our new house. I’ve seen a lot of people sharing their entertainment loves and I thought I’d do the same. So here is some of the entertainment I’ve been loving lately which has kept me sane.

Books I’ve been loving

I’ve always been a huge bookworm but sometimes don’t find quite enough time to read. I’ve been making up for lost time over the past few weeks and reading as much as I can. I have three books which I have absolutely loved lately, although I’m sure that number will just keep increasing.

So Lucky by Dawn Porter– I’d had this on my shelves for ages and finally picked this up. I devoured it in less than 2 days. It follows the story of three women who all on the outside seem to have it all and people call them lucky. But it talks about the problems they’re facing and how you shouldn’t ever judge anyone’s situation. I’d read The Cows by Dawn before and knew I loved her style of writing but this book was just sensational.

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary– This was another one I read in less than 2 days because I couldn’t put it down. The whole book revolves around Leon and Tiffy who live in the same flat and sleep in the same bed but at different times as Leon is a nighttime nurse. The story alternates chapters between the two characters which makes it super easy to read. And it was so entertaining reading from both perspectives.

Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams– I’d heard such great things about this book and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a diary-style book all about main character Queenie and her life living as a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman in London. It was brutally honest, modern, and really funny at parts. I really loved this book and 100% agree with its Costa book award nomination last year.

TV entertainment I’ve been loving lately

Netflix has generally been our go-to streaming service and one we’ve never canceled over the years. I watched The Stranger a month or two back and didn’t think I’d love it. But it was so gripping, and I didn’t know how it would end until the final episode. Sex Education season 2 was also fantastic, and if you’ve not seen the show before then you need to watch it. I’ve been keeping up with Ru Pauls Drag Race each week and it’s such a great season this year.

I’ve also just started to watch The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It’s a show I’d been meaning to start for a while. But I didn’t fancy trying it out on my own as I wasn’t sure how dark it would be. Luke watched the first episode with me as I’m very jumpy. I’ve only seen a few episodes but I’m enjoying it so far.

It wouldn’t be an entertainment I’ve been loving lately post if I didn’t talk about Disney+. The streaming service came at just the right time for the world to binge the best Disney movies on. I’ve started watching some of the Disney movies I’d never seen including both Wreck-it Ralphs, Zootropilis, and the live-action Lady And The Tramp. And I’ve still got a few on my list to watch including The Mandalorian as I need to see baby Yoda.

But the main TV show I’ve been obsessed with comes from Amazon Prime and that’s Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I’d heard great things about it and knew it had won/ been nominated for plenty of awards. And lockdown gave me a good excuse to give it a go and I am obsessed. At the point of writing this, I am 2 episodes into the third season and it’s so well done. It’s dramatic, it’s had me laughing out loud and it’s truly gripping. If you’ve not given it a go you really should!

Other entertainment keeping me sane

Now I’m not a gamer in any sense of the word and even Animal Crossing hasn’t sparked my interest but I’ve been playing a few new games on my iPhone. I’m trying to do as much as I can to keep my brain active and the entertainment I’ve been loving lately includes Nanogram and Sort it 3D. They’re both puzzle-style games which I am not going to describe as I am terrible at describing rules/ games but give them a download if you want something to keep your mind active.

What entertainment have you been consuming during the lockdown?

We’ve been watching loads of Disney movies. Aladdin has been on about 4 times this past week. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina sounds interesting, I need a few more adult things to watch before I completely revert back to being a child.

I am loving animal crossing at the minute, in fact I liked the look of it so much that I bought a switch just so I could play it! I have been struggling to focus on reading lately and it is a really nice distraction.

Great books for the book enthusiast! My wife and I have been watching shows on Hulu or Netflix, with the occasional show (me watching something from Marvel!), plus working.

I love Marvelous Mrs Maisel, we stopped watching it for a while so must pick it up again.
We have just discovered New Amsterdam is back on so been watching that

We’ve just finished watching Manifest as season 2 came out – I love that show and started watching Killing Eve, we had seen a bit of the first series before so watching it from the start. TV is keeping me going lol.

Just like you I have been watching so many different shows with my kids and on my own. Mainly Netflix programs. I am catching up on The Stranger and Sex Education as well.

We loved The Stranger and need to finish off Sex Education season 2 as we kind of stopped due to the move. I’ve been loving getting caught up with my books too.

We discovered This is Us and watch that in the evenings. I have tried to download some podcasts but just haven’t found a good one. May look into these books because I need to start reading more

Reading has been one of the things that I have been doing more during lockdown, I’m so thankful that I bought a Kindle at Christmas so that I’m able to download new books as much as I want.

That’s so practical to just be able to download kindle books. Thankfully I have quite a stash of books to get through x
