My Thoughts On Beauty Pie – Is Signing Up Worth It?

I’ve heard A LOT about Beauty Pie and it’s always intrigued me. I’d put off signing up/ using it as I wasn’t sure about the membership aspect. I’m a huge skincare junkie so after seeing the products pop up lots I knew I wanted to give it a go. What tipped me over the edge was finding out they were doing a 3 month pop-up store in Harvey Nichols in London. And I loved the idea of visiting and seeing the products in the flesh!

How does Beauty Pie work?

If you’re not sure how Beauty Pie works here’s a breakdown. Beauty Pie sell skincare and beauty (plus a few other bits like candles and shampoo/ conditioner). And they buy from factories that manufacture high end products. Unlike the branded products you’d buy in John Lewis or Selfridges, Beauty Pie sell at much lower prices as they’re not paying for branding, endorsements and other things.

So a high end brand might sell some serum capsules for £50, but Beauty Pie may sell it fro £9. To access Beauty Pie you have to subscribe for a minimum of 3 months. You can choose your monthly payment ranging from £5 to £20 a month. How much you pay will dictate how much your spending cap is. The one thing I didn’t realise was the spending cap was worked out on the original prices of items.

I signed up for the £5 a month subscription which gives you a £50 spend (or a special double up in month one). And I thought ‘ohh that’s loads’ but actually it’s only 1 or 2 items. But the great thing is you can roll over your spending so I’m more likely to order every 2 months and use the £100 spend value.

The process of signing up and purchasing with Beauty Pie

Once you’re signing up for a membership you can access their store and purchase products. As I said above be aware that your spend is on the original value. So even with a £100 spend value in my first month I only managed to pick up three products. Although I did roll over £10 I hadn’t spent.

The initial sign up was very easy and purchasing was also simple. The hardest part for me was choosing what items to get. I’ll take a little more about the specific products I chose further down. But on my first order when I checked out I paid my £5 membership fee, the reduced product price and the shipping fee which was pretty reasonable.

For future months I’ll pay the £5 membership each month regardless of what I spend. Then I can spend monthly or choose to roll over my spend for a few months and do a larger order (and only pay for one lot of shipping). I’m sure this is what I’ll do further along the line as a £50 spend value isn’t going to get you far. But there’s no point me increasing my spend as I don’t need to be buying skincare every month anyway.

What I bought in my first month at Beauty Pie

I’d heard really good things about their serum capsules so I knew I’d want one of those.In the end I got the Superactive Capsules which have Hyaluronic Acid in them. There are 60 capsules in a tub so if you just use them at night they’ll last 2 months which is pretty good. I use these as the very last part of my routine and they make my skin softer and more supple.

Next up I knew I wanted to try a cleanser as they’re one of my favourite beauty products. I chose the Double Phase Cleanser as it’s good for combination, dehydrated and dry skin types. And my skin is a mixture of all of these things. It’s really gentle and the way it foamed really reminded me of the Glamglow Galacticleanse (minus the black colour). It comes out clear which you massage onto your dry skin and when you add warm water it changes into a milk. I really enjoyed the formula and I could feel it cleaning my skin, although I don’t know if I’d use it to remove my makeup.

Then the final thing I got from my first month was the Dr Glycolic Peel Socks. I’ve used loads of peeling socks before and only one ever properly worked. So I wasn’t sure what to expect but they did exactly what they were meant to. Without getting into gory details I left them on for 90 minutes on a Sunday evening and about 5 days later my skin started to peel. And about a week later and they’re super smooth and

Harvey Nichols Beauty Pie pop-up

I just got to pop-up before all the stores started closing down due to whats going on. So I’m not 100% sure when it will re-open, or how much longer the pop-up will be about. But I thought I’d talk about my experience and the items I picked up.

I’m going to be honest I didn’t think it was explained all that well how the pop-up would work. The impressive I got was that you would be allowed to have your monthly allowance to spend there, and then buy top-ups if you wanted. But actually if you’d spent your monthly allowance already you had nothing. I bought a one off £100 top up which cost about £13. But the great thing was my £10 I hadn’t spent before rolled into this. So I picked up three items from Harvey Nicols.

What I got from the Beauty Pie pop-up shop

The Japanfusion hydra prep tonic was the number one thing on my list. I’d heard great things about this collection as it’s super hydrating. If the cleanser had been available I’d have gotten this as well. But they only had the tonic. It feels like water on my skin it’s so moisturising. Although I am going to try applying it with my hands as it just soaks into my cotton pads.

Then next up I picked up the Fruitizyme Five Minute Facial as it was on my wish list and one of the higher priced items. It’s basically a do it yourself facial peel, but to me it’s more of an exfoliation tool. You rub it over your face then leave on for 5-10 minutes before rubbing off. I’m going to admit I haven’t been too bowled over with this yet. But maybe it’s more of a grower so I’ll keep you updated.

Then as I was running low on Micellar Water I decided to pick up the QI Energy Double Cleansing Micellar Water. It’s designed as a cleanser you can use when you’re too busy/ tired to do a double cleanse. Although I still use it as cleanse number one and use a gel afterwards. You can’t use this on your eyes which is a shame as I tend to use micellar to get my eye makeup off too. For me it’s a pretty standard micellar water, although it is nice and hydrating which is good. I probably wouldn’t choose this again with Beauty Pie as there are micellar waters just as good out there for even less.
