Getting Through A Month Of Lockdown – April Update

These posts used to be one of my favourite ones to write. It would be a chance to look back on all the fun stuff from the month. But this one’s a little different. April has primarily been complete lockdown for all of us. It’s been a strange one as I actually feel like the month has gone quite quickly. Even though I’ve not done very much.

During the middle of the month my dad actually came down with the virus so we spent two weeks self-isolating. Thankfully my dad is well again and he’s back at work as a key worker. Those two weeks were bizarre, not even getting my weekly shopping trip. And it made me realise I need to use my daily outdoor exercise allocation as I wasn’t using it before. Although even by the end of April I’m still not *oops*. That NEEDS to change.

While the situation we’re in is definitely rubbish I’m trying to see the silver lining. I feel I am getting more sleep which is great for my health. And I’m definitely taking things at a slower pace as I’m not able to get out. This is something I want to do more of when we’re out of lockdown. But here’s a bit of an overview of my April.

A change of jobs

So during the weirdest time possible I actually changed jobs. I accepted the new role and handed my notice in to my old job before this craziness happened. And when corona kicked off I did worry that it might not run smoothly. But I had nothing to worry about. My new employer sorted out equipment ahead of time, they booked in loads of induction and training. And I’ve been able to crack straight into working. It’s so nice to have something during this time as it helps me form some sort of normality.

It’s going to be a little strange when we do get back into the office as we’ll feel ‘new’ again. Even if we’ve been there for two months already. But that’s something to look forward to.

The house

When we were self-isolating we had to put the house renovations on hold for everyone’s safety. But Luke still isn’t working so he’s back at the house whenever possible to push along our plans. I did a month one renovation update which gives you a more in-depth look at what we did pre-isolation. And I’ll be doing monthly updates until July(ish). Then room tours when things are properly finished. There’s still a lot to do but we’re starting to make good progress which I’m really happy about.

Social aspects

I’ve had a few zoom calls with friends and family over the month. We did a few quizzes with my brother and his fiancee, and I had a birthday call with my bestie. But it’s all still so surreal knowing I can’t really see them.

As expected I had quite a few things cancelled/ postponed for later in the year. My Chemical Romance has been pushed back a whole year (but it will be worth the wait). 2000 trees as expected isn’t happening in 2020, but it means we already have our 2021 tickets.

I had a few theatre shows booked which I’ve had credit for. So I need to get some of those re-booked later in the year. The Green Day/ Fall out Boy tour hasn’t been officially pushed back yet but it’s not going to happen in June. So I’m just waiting for new dates for that.

What I’ve been doing

So for most of the month I’ve been working which has kept me a little sane. And then a few days at the weekend I’ve been to the house (but not much). I’ve got back into reading a lot more which has made me happy. Follow me on Goodreads to find out more about what I’ve been reading. I’ve been watching quite a few shows this month as well. A few of the ones I finished were Tiger King, Don’t F**k with Cats, Marvellous Mrs Maisel and Quiz, and I’m almost finished with season 1 of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

I’ve also been taking care of my skin more which has been nice. I’ve had way more makeup free days which has helped, and I’ve been using more masks and treatments.

How has your lockdown April been?

It is a strange time, where we are all adapting. I have hardly worn make up which is great for my skin and also been enjoying looking after my skin and seeing it work. Glad your new job is going well x

You have had a lot going on in your life! I think someday you can look back at these posts and remember when life was crazy for you and that you overcame the obstacles that life threw at you. My wife and I watched Don’t F**k With Cats. It really got to me!

Zoom calls are a good way to keep in touch with family and friends. It’s good you have been able to keep busy with work it serves as a great distraction. The Tiger Kind show sounds interesting.

It’s such a strange time and I can imagine the anxiety you felt changing jobs with everything going on. But I’m so glad it worked out smoothly for you and has given you a focus through this.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah the anxiety was strong as I had nothing to fall back on. My old employers weren’t prepared to keep me on for longer (even though my position hadn’t been back filled) so I count myself very lucky x

So glad to hear that your dad is better and you are all well! And yay for the new job glad to hear that is going well too and all went smoothly. Its such a strange time isn’t it? We keep trying to find some kind of routine with the kids but its so hard on them its just too tricky sticking to anything right now.

Yeah it’s kind of tough to find a routine, it must be even tougher when you have kids to be honest! Thanks, I’m so relieved that he’s better too x

Sorry to hear that your Dad was ill, but great news to hear that he is well again – must have been a worrying time for you all. April was a funny old month, the realisation that a lot of things for later in the year have now been cancelled or postponed.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah it was a worrying time, especially with all the news you hear, but he’s a tough cookie x
