Another Month Of Lockdown During The Strangest Year – May Update
Another month down and another month in lockdown. It’s weird thinking how long this has been the ‘norm’ for us. It’s been well over two months since I last properly saw my Nan and Auntie and could give them a hug. Everyone’s in the same boat which does make me feel a bit better, but it’s tough. The continuous nice weather we’ve had in May has been lovely, although I’m certainly not built for the heat.
Socializing by social distancing
I say ‘socializing’ in the lossest possible term during May like most other people. I’ve had a few Zoom catch-ups with friends, and a socially distanced trip sitting in the garden at my Nan’s house as she’s finding things tough at 80. She was sat in the conversation and us in the garden which was tough but we know it’s for her own safety.
Other than for our weekly shop I’ve barely been out of the house, but I actually went on a long-walk in May. I met a friend on the way and making sure we stayed 2 meters apart we walked for a few hours. It was so lovely to see her face-to-face and get out in the fresh air. I’ll definitely be doing more walks at the weeks go by.
New house update
The house continues to be the biggest thing in our lives. My month two renovation diary is up which you can read for more info. It’s been a busy month but less obvious changes you can see such as re-wiring, electrics, wallpaper stripping, and plumbing.
Our biggest worry was about getting plaster. Upstairs needs plastering before we can progress any further and have it decorated, en-suite tiles fitted, etc. But the country is having a plaster shortage *hooray*. I can’t begin to tell you how many calls I’ve made to building merchants. And how many trips Luke has done only to get to places that sold out within 5 minutes of opening. We ended up buying some off a guy on eBay who was really nice and sold it to us for what he paid. But that was still £25 a bag compared to retail price of £7.50 a bag. I’m not even going to begin to think about how much we spent extra on our 20 bags, but we have it. So plastering has just started, right as this post has gone up which I’m so happy about.
Hopefully, in my month 3 update upstairs will be in its final stages and it will look noticeably different.
Everything else….
I’ve now been at my new job for 6 weeks which is crazy. I have no idea where the time has gone. I have been loving the role and getting to be more creative and thinking in a different way.
May saw me start-up two brand new blogs as well for a little project which I’m excited about. Petals and planes and Budgeting and saving are my two new sites, but this will continue to be my main blog.
For me, events continue to be cancelled/ rescheduled as expected. The latest for me has been Slamdunk which was rescheduled to September now isn’t happening this year at all. The A Day To Remember tour has been cancelled which is such a shame as I was looking forward to that. I’m still waiting for new dates for Green Day and Fall Out Boy which should have been happening in June.

What a weird time it’s been. I think we’ve all really embraced the socialising by distance though.
Its been a crazy year so far, we had stuff cancelled and delayed in May, which was a shame, we are starting to come to that point where this year for much of what we would have liked to have done is just a write off, hopefully things get better, plastering is something I’ve never been able to do and one of those that I’ve always hired someone lol, im useless at it.
Yeah, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll be doing very little this year as even if things get better I don’t want to go crazy. I’ll be anxious restarting up things, but it’s all for the good of everyone’s safety in the long run x
It certainly has been a very strange year, I must head over and see your month 2 diary of work on your house.
We have been having zoom quiz nights with the family, but its been the kids that are having online socials, not us LOL
I agree that this has been a strange year. In late January, we had a volcanic eruption down south from where I live. And it took about 5 weeks before it calmed down (sort of). And then come March this virus created panic. Until now we are still on lock down and it can get pretty depressing already. Thanks for sharing your May update. I can’t wait to see your house when its finished.

It was a very different May to one that we would normally have, no family adventures and day trips to make the most of the bank holiday weekends. I didn’t realise that there was a shortage on plaster, we had a few issues getting things for the garden.
Its a difficult time for us all, hopefully with the rules slackening a little you may be able to see your nan a bit more often. Congratulations on your new blogs.

Yeah it does take up a lot of time, we’ll see how they go as it’s more a business opp than a labour of love like this one haha x
