Wow, what a month it’s been. In terms of the house, it’s the month where I’ve been the most obvious difference. And I wasn’t joking last month when I said July would be the biggest in terms of transformation for the house. These home renovation diaries have already gone on longer than I thought. But who were we kidding thinking we’d do everything in three months?
We’re in a really good position at the moment looking to move in Mid-August with just some small(ish) things to finish. So it’s likely that next month’s home renovation diaries month five will be the last of these kinds of updates. But there will be room reveals and more in-depth chats on things in the house. And I know most of you are only interested in the room reveal before and afters. That’s what I would be most looking forward to.
The biggest thing which happened during month four across the whole house was the decorating. Our decorators worked so hard and transformed the whole house in just over two weeks. Even just seeing the ceilings painted white and all the woodwork done made the world of difference. But having colours that we picked out on the walls and the amazing feature wallpaper in two bedrooms makes it feel so much more like our house.
In last month’s home renovation diaries, I mentioned about the sockets and switches. Well, those have been done as well. As soon as the decorating was finished Luke went around and fitted all the sockets and switches. Along with the light fittings upstairs and in our living room. The fuse board still needs to be finished so we can actually use the switches and turn on the lights. But that’s only a matter of days away.
And now the decorating is done all of our radiators are back on the walls and plumbed in which is another huge win. As I’m writing this we’re a few days away from having our carpet fitted all over which means all of the floorings will be done.
This is the room which is the closest to being completely finished. Just after last month’s update the tiling was finished and then the actual ensuite was fitted. Thanks to Luke’s dad we now have running water, a useable toilet and an incredible looking shower which I can not wait to use. There’s still a little bit of plumbing left to finish to get the shower to run (although that work is to be done outside of the ensuite).
So now it’s over to me to sort out organising the shelves in the mirrored cabinet and boxes for our under sink storage. All of the very important details.
Last time I did a home renovation diaries the wooden flooring was going down. But it’s all done and finished now. It’s covered to protect it but what I have seen I absolutely love it. Even though it’s a darker tone of wood with all of the light which floods the house it’s perfect.
Our window frame arrived for the space between the living room and my office and the grey surround looks so good. Thankfully the glass just slots in so once that arrives we can get it in and sealed up.
Then for our kitchen, everything has now arrived, both appliances and the actual kitchen. So it’s full speed ahead with getting this room finished.
While the garden (front or back) were not on our priority list my parents lent a hand to get it looking presentable. They both did an incredible job stripping down the front garden, I can’t take any credit for it. The next step is to turf up some of the front where we’re dialling back the flower beds. And then adding in some colour/ plants to make it look inviting.
And then the back garden has been trimmed back to look a little more presentable. Although there’s so much more to do in this area.
The kitchen is our main priority for getting finished as this is the main element we need to be able to move in. We’ve got to be able to eat and cook of course. We also need to get our new doors cut down to the exact right height and fitted in. This will be another thing which I’m sure will make a huge amount of difference to the look of the house.
We’re in the process of emptying out our storage unit so my plans are to open up all of the boxes and move them as much as possible to their new homes. There will be some things that I’ll be able to actually unpack which is pretty exciting. And other things which will be just ready for going forward.

ooh so exciting! Especially when you get to updating the kitchen – that is always the most fun part
I can’t believe how much you managed to get done in July, I can’t wait to see the finished result and not long now!
I think we’re both just ready to be in there now so we’re working super quick and hard where we can x
Looks like you have pulled in all the moves to get the house into ship shape! These are such amazing progress and I am so excited to find out how it looks in the end
The house is really coming on, we have just had all our doors replaced and I cannot believe how much mess there was…….just need to paint them now
Replacing doors or even just repainting them can make such a huge difference to how a house looks x
What a difference a month can make! It is amazing watching your home all come together, your front garden looks like it will be love – I like the idea of turning more and getting rid of some flower beds, we have a huge flower bed in our back garden and I struggle with it.
That’s the thing I’m not a gardener so I don’t want to have too much to have to maintain x
Everything is starting to look good and I am happy that you got a lot done this month. I can’t wait to see your home when the renovations are finished.
You have worked so hard, and it iis looking great I bet you can not wait to get it all finished
WOW it is looking amazing and it looks like you are making amazing progress. I totally get it feeling more like “home” with all the colours you guys have picked being on the walls, I bet you cant wait to be in there and calling it home!
Wow! You have got so much done! I think when you know what you want , us women get things done don’t we 🙂
Your getting there! We have lived in our house for 13 years and it still needs so much doing to it.
It’s so much tougher to do things once you’re there living in a property x
It sounds like you are really getting somewhere. I am keen to see your ensuite!
There’s very little which needs doing for the ensuite which I’m so happy for, mainly it’s just hooking up the water x
