Tropical Themed Afternoon Tea From Home

Tropical themed afternoon tea

*The afternoon tea from home was provided by Red Letter Days but all thoughts and opinions are muy own

To celebrate afternoon tea week last summer I headed aboard the Brigit’s Bakery bus. Since then I’ve had a few afternoon tea’s with the last being back in February when heading into London didn’t seem like a strange occurrence. I’ve tried my fair share of attempts at afternoon tea from home but they’ve never quite shaped upright. And with afternoon tea being one of my favourite meals/ treats I’d want to make sure I did it right.

So that’s why this year I’m having afternoon tea from home thanks to Red Letter Days. And I’ve themed it tropical style because it doesn’t seem like a holiday is going to happen. So overindulging in food at home is the next best thing.

With everything going on in the world a lot of places have started to offer deliveries. And afternoon tea is something I’ve started to see around quite often. Red Letters Day provided me with a voucher for afternoon tea for two which you can order through Piglets Pantry.

Piglets Pantry are based in Worthing, West Sussex and started life as mainly pie makers. When crowds are allowed they provide Brighton & Hove Albion FC pies for their football matches. And life started from there. After reaching out to the company we arranged a day for the afternoon tea box to arrive. The whole process of speaking to them and booking was simple and super easy.

Enjoying afternoon tea from home

I’ve had a lot of online deliveries through the lockdown. But I don’t think I’ve been as excited for one as I have for my afternoon tea box. First thing was first I wanted to set up a little tropical backdrop for me and my mum to enjoy the afternoon tea. For most of us we won’t be getting away on a summer holiday so I wanted to make it feel at least a little bit exotic. And it didn’t rain which was good enough for this country.

The box was filled with cooling bags like you get in meal subscription boxes etc. And it came with a little card telling you how to best enjoy the treats. From warming certain items up to what ones would be best from the fridge. Just looking at the food when I was taking these photos was torture as it looked (and smelled) amazing.

In the box we got four savoury items which we started off with. 2 cheese and chive quiches, 2 traditional scotch eggs, 2 mini traditional sausage rolls and 2 mini cheese and pickle sausage rolls. You can tell that they’re famous for their pastry and pies as the sausage rolls were a real standout for me. Everything tasted so fresh even though it had been posted out to me to enjoy.

Scones from afternoon tea in Piglets Pantry

Scones and sweet treats

Then next up it was my favourite part of afternoon tea; the scones. The tea came with two scones alongside clotted cream and strawberry conserve. I don’t know whether it’s because I hadn’t had afternoon tea in a while but these were some of the best scones I’ve ever had. They were fluffy and light, yet dense and chewy at the same time. I could have eaten a whole plate of those on their own.

To finish off there was a selection of 4 cakes. We got two carrot cakes with cream cheese icing which was so nice. A blueberry banana cake with lemon curd icing cake, and a chocolate chip loaf with caramel drizzle. Normally I finish afternoon tea with no problems but we had to save some cakes as it was quite a lot of food. But the leftovers tasted just as good the following day.

Now I’ve had afternoon tea from Piglet’s Pantry I now want need to try their pies. And the red onion sausage rolls. And pretty much everything else they make. If you want to treat someone for afternoon tea week you can grab a voucher from Red Letter Days ready to order in.

I’ve seen some lockdown afternoon teas that didn’t look too special, but this one does look particularly good. I’m loving the little pies – a unusual touch.
