Master Bedroom Reveal – Renovation Diary

I’m so excited to be back with another room reveal from our renovations. And this time it’s our master bedroom which I’ll admit didn’t have a crazy amount of work done to it. But it still looks a million miles better than it did when we first started. If you haven’t seen my first room reveal it was our en-suite which you can see here. We still have a few little things left to finish in the room which I’ll explain further down. But it’s close enough to do a master bedroom reveal.

You’ll be able to see from the photo below a little insight to how it looked before. The room had horrible cream carpet which we ripped out almost straight away. And the rest of the room was a variety of other shades of beige/ cream. The walls had no colour and it was pretty boring.

The work we did for our master bedroom reveal

Most of the work that was completed in the master bedroom was work we did all around the house. So once it was ripped out (carpet, skirting boards, architrave, etc) it was time to re-wire the room. Luke put in two sockets on either side of the bed. One which sits lower behind our bedside tables, and one which sits above and has USB slots. He also wired our cut bedside lights into the walls which are now controlled by Alexa which makes going to be so much easier. If you’re all snuggled up and don’t want to move to turn off the light all it takes is your voice. The lights were less than £20 each from Amazon and are such great quality for that.

The room was plastered and then had new skirting boards and architrave added in before being decorated. It was Luke who first suggested purple for our bedroom and I absolutely love it. We have this beautiful paper from Graham and Brown behind our bed and purple on the walls from Dulux.

Master bedroom reveal

Once the room was decorated next up was getting the carpet fitted. We had the same plush grey carpet in all of our bedrooms alongside the hallway, stairs, and living room. And it feels so amazing underfoot, all squishy and soft. Plus the grey pretty much matches anything so if we decide to change the colours in the future it will be easy to update.

The main part of the bedroom as the name suggests is the bed. Our king size bed is an ottoman bed which is INCREDIBLE for additional storage as you can use the whole underneath. We bought ours from Wayfair when we were back in the flat and it’s been amazing to be back using it. You don’t realise how much difference there is going from a double to a king size.

Our bedside tables are brand new, also from Wayfair. They have a lovely diagonal design on them and the drawers pull out on runners to give so much storage space. While we’re still unpacking/ moving in there’s a lot of stuff out on the surfaces, but my ultimate goal is to have less out so it feels more relaxed.

Fitted wardrobes in our master bedroom

Fitted wardrobes can transform your bedroom and give you so much storage which is why we kept the original ones in. While they’re not completely to our taste and we’d choose slightly different storage inside we couldn’t justify the cost at the moment while there’s nothing really wrong with them. It’s in our next 3-year plan to get somewhere like Hammonds to come out and measure up to plan and build us brand new fitted wardrobes. But for the moment they’re fine as they are.

There’s a single wardrobe with hanging space on either side of the bed. Then each one of those has a corner wardrobe with shelves. Then in the corner between the master bedroom door and the door to the en-suite is a double hanging wardrobe with a corner. There’s even three double cupboards above the bed joining them up. So there’s a good amount of storage space in the bedroom without it feeling too claustrophobic.

Master bedroom reveal- My side of the room

I sleep on the right side of the bed (as you can probably tell from the bedside table) so my area sits here. Much like throughout our house we chose a Nevo Designer Radiator in Anthracite from Trade Radiators. It just looks so much smarter and sleeker than other radiators and it’s so slim that it doesn’t stick out from the wall too much. Plus the grey against the purple looks so nice.

Over this side of the bedroom, I have our small laundry basket, a fan (as it’s been really warm), and my Alex drawers with makeup and other bits and pieces inside. We ended up getting our curtains custom-made from Curtainsmadeforfree as we needed them to fit within the window frame. Snug Curtains had some great grey curtains too, so they’re also worth checking out if you need made-to-measure. If we put a curtain rail above the window as you’d usually do it meant that the corner wardrobe by the window didn’t open properly. So we got an internally mounted rail which meant our curtains needed to be a more specific size. As I can’t sleep with too much light we got blackout thermal versions and I couldn’t be happier with them.

My DIY shelves

One of my favourite parts of the master bedroom reveals are these shelves which Luke made for me. I knew I wanted shelves to utilise the space in the corner of
the bedroom, and with MDF boards cut to size, you can easily create a customised look. I have a lot of stuff so knew this would be the perfect spot for jewellery, handbags, hair care and so much more.

They still need a bit of refining and some different storage boxes so things don’t feel too messy. But for the moment I’m so happy with how they look, and everything I want and need is easy to reach.

What we still have to finish in our master bedroom

There are two main things we have left to do for our main bedroom before it’s 100% complete. The pipe which is coming out of the wall is for our air conditioning unit. We decided from the off that we were going to install air conditioning in our house with one unit in our master bedroom. We sleep with fans on all year round as we’re hot people. But the unit can also be used to heat which is amazing. But we ordered the units back in July and they had to go on backorder, arriving mid-late September. So at the moment, we have the tube there ready to install when they arrive.

And then underneath the unit where the sockets are we still need to get a small TV for our bedroom. We know having one in the bedroom for evening movie watching will be nice but it’s not been our number one priority.
