Our First Full Month In The House – September 2020 Overview

Decoration in our living room

September 2020 has been another strange month. When things should be getting a bit more back to normal and I should be preparing to go back to the office, the opposite seems to be happening. Things are changing week by week and getting stricter. My life hasn’t changed all that much as I wasn’t going out too much anyway and spending most of my time at home or with Luke. But it’s crazy how many months into this we are. Here’s what we got up to over September

September 2020 house updates

September was the first full we spent in the house and it’s been so nice to finally feel settled. We’ve spent the month unpacking more and generally making the house feel more like a home. We had a selection of furniture delivered including finishing up my office with cabinets and cupboards. You can see my office reveal here.

We made a trip to Ikea in September as the bookcases we wanted for our living room had finally come into stock. And they’ve made such a difference to the room. Renovations have started up again as we’ve made a start on our downstairs loo. The room is now ready to be plastered and tiled so hopefully, it will be useable again in a few week’s time.

I spent my first night alone in the house in September as Luke headed on a golf weekend. It was a very strange feeling, but I loved having the bed to myself.

Socialising in these strange times

Having settled into my house I had a few of my friends around on a Sunday afternoon and it was lovely to see them. We managed to catch up, eat some nice food and they got to see our house. Me and Luke got to have a date night where we went back to Yo! Sushi and made our first trip back to the cinema. We went to see Tenet which was a great movie despite being a little complicated.

I actually headed into my work offices for two days in September. Having never driven to my offices from the new house I wanted to try out a few routes. And I managed to see a few of my colleagues as we planned to go in together which was so nice. Although the office was very quiet it was nice to feel a little bit more normal.

Seeing my family in September 2020

It was my Nan’s 81st birthday at the end of September so we took it in turns to go round and see her. A few weeks before I took afternoon tea round to her as a treat. And then just before her actual birthday me and Luke went around for Sunday lunch. As we’ve spent a lot of the month sorting out the house I’ve not been home as much. But with everything going on at the moment it’s probably for the best as my dad is a frontline worker.

Planning for Christmas

As you’ll be able to see from the photo above I’m well in the swing of planning for Christmas. That’s both here on the blog, but also in my real life outside of that. For the blog, I do Christmas gift guides every year which I love doing, and I’m lucky enough that I get some brands who send me products to include such as Bioderma who sent me some goodies to try out. I never like to promote items I’ve not physically got or tried which is why I start as early as I can.

I’m so excited to start using the Atoderm Gel Douche* as it’s a cleansing body wash. And the Sensibio AR BB Cream* as it’s an anti-redness product and my cheeks can always do with that. You’ll get all of my full thoughts in my gift guides which start going live from mid-late October.

We’ve also ordered our Christmas tree for 2020 which is going to be a real tree. I’m so excited as I’ve never had a real tree before (only artificial ones). I’m determined to make our first Christmas in the house as special as possible.

How has your September 2020 been?

How exciting that you have ordered a real tree! We are planning on getting a real tree ourselves for the new house – we’ve never had one before.

September went pretty quickly, much like the rest of the year so far. I don’t know where it went. I haven’t done any in person socializing yet.

It sounds like your house is coming together – glad you got to get your bookcases! I also love that you’ve started planning for Christmas already. In my opinion, you can never start too early! I’ll be keeping an eye out for your upcoming gift guides too.

It’s taken us 2 years of living in the house to get it to where we want to be! We moved in and just didn’t get round to things. It does make a real difference though!

Your office looks so amazing, had to take a wee click through and love how it reflects all of your different loves and interests. I really need to get more organised on my blog as I am terrible at remembering to plan my content in advance.
