*This is a collaborative post but all thoughts on how to keep yourself healthy are my own
2020 has taken its toll on most of us. Some people are struggling to get their daily steps in, some people are eating everything in sight, and others just sometimes don’t have the energy. I fall into all three of those camps at different times. Back in March it probably felt a bit like a blip. We’d all take some time out of our usually hectic lives, recharge, and be back raring to go a few months later. And while some people have thrived taking up yoga and cultivating sourdough yeast, we all need to consider how to keep ourselves healthy both inside and out.
In the grand scheme of things, most of us have been quite lucky with our health. But others not so much. The older generation and those with long-term illnesses are suffering. Perhaps they need canned oxygen or long-term medical care. But it’s important for those of us who are healthier to think about how we can help our bodies.
It’s important to take supplements in general, but collagen is an important one to incorporate into your routine. Collagen is the most abundant type of protein in our bodies, it’s essentially the glue that holds our body together. From the structure and integrity of our skin through to our organs, teeth, and bones. As you get older the body produces fewer quantities of collagen so it’s important to keep it topped up.
By taking collagen protein as a supplement you give your body 18 important amino acids. These acids are then used by the body to repair, heal, grown, and form new collagen. Taking collagen supplements can help prevent bone loss, boost muscle mass, improve joint pain, promote hair growth and so much more. Collagen also helps the skin which is why you find it in some skincare products. Without additional collagen, skin becomes less elastic and looser which causes creases and wrinkles to develop and skin to sag. And who wants that right?!
I have the hydrolysed bovine collagen powder which unlike some protein powders is tasteless and can be mixed in with whatever you drink. This dentist who does teeth whitening in Harrisburg adds that collagen is actually good for your dental health too. Collagen helps in keeping the teeth rooted in the gums.
Now I’m not saying you have to do a full-on workout every single day, but do something active. That could be a walk around the block, it could be a mass cleaning session or it could be an online fitness class. Keeping your body active will help you feel better with all the nice endorphins released. Even though I hate dragging myself up and into my workout clothes I do find that I feel much better after a 20-30 minute cycle class. But even a walk to the local shop helps as it gets your heart pumping.
A lot of us aren’t going out very much, we may be working from home, shielding, or just not wanting to go out in the cold. But continuing to get some fresh air in your lungs is so important. A lot of the time I don’t go outside for exercise or to the shops but I always feel better after going into the garden with a hot drink for a few minutes. Being indoors all day every day isn’t normal or good for us. So make sure you get some fresh air each day even if it is just in the garden.
With a lot of these things, the most important thing is to create new routines. Going for a daily walk, doing an exercise class, drinking water or taking supplements won’t come naturally if you’re just starting out. But by incorporating it into your everyday routine you’ll find it starts to become natural. I try and do my workouts at roughly the same time every day so it becomes a habit. Creating these habits and routines will help you with how to keep yourself healthy inside and out.

This is great advice, I have really struggled both physically and mentally this year to remain healthy.
2021 needs my full focus on my health and well-being x
Sometimes we just have to be a little selfish and think of our own health and well-being x
It is even more important at the moment to look after yourself, not only do we have the wet and grey days, we are also going through something no one ever imagined. Great tips here to help us keep healthy
These are excellent tips Rhian! 🙂 I’m going to make a conscious effort to improve my health and fitness in the New Year; it’s mainly my diet and exercise routing that needs work.
Collagen is something I need to add to my lifestyle as everything in your post I am already doing.
Such great tips here on how to stay healthy both inside and outside. Creating a new routine is so important and to stick to it as well
Yeah it’s the routine that is the hardest thing to get into x
I would love to get more fresh air every day but I work in a school and never see the sun in the winter months!
Oh no that isn’t good. I’m not much better but I don’t have an excuse for it x
Great tips here. I lost a stone during the main lockdown and felt amazing. This time around I am eating too much – but it is Christmas! Kaz
You’re allowed to at Christmas, but that’s so amazing during the first lockdown, you should be very happy with that x
Love this and definitely feel a lot of people could benefit from this . I love going on walks and have tried to not binge and still keep healthy
Great advice Rhian. I have tried to keep myself healthy inside and outside by getting some fresh air outdoors and also running, which I find to be a great release.
I also try to drink plenty of water, and keep in touch with family and friends.
Health and wellbeing is so important these days!
Yeah I think I need to get outside with fresh air more x
I really miss my daily walks but the weather is not cooperating at the moment. I don’t take supplements but really should add them into my diet
Yeah the weather sucks as sometimes I think I’ll go for a walk and then the heavens open x
I definitely think I need to start taking some supplements! I also need to make sure I drink enough water too.
Such a great post, I agree we do need supplements to help us keep healthy, I became more into supplements through C’s illness as she takes them for varoius things
