There are so many ways brands and bloggers can work together. But sometimes I find unless you know a lot about the outreach or blogger industries and ways of working relationships can be tough. I’ve been blogging for around 6-7 years now, and have also done outreach both freelance and within full-time roles. So I can see both sides of the industry- although I have way more experience as a blogger.
The relationship between brands and bloggers can be truly great if you’re both on the same wavelength and communicate well. I have a selection of brands that I work with often and I genuinely enjoy speaking to them and coming up with content ideas. But I also appreciate them as people as well. Here are some tips on how to work together and how to make the best out of collaborations.
If you’re a brand and want to work with lifestyle bloggers there are quite a few things to take into consideration. Remember that bloggers firstly write because they’re passionate about writing or telling a story. But also remember that most of them do it as a business. And if you want to work with a professional and get good results you need to pay for it. Content creators still need to pay their bills and put food on the table.

I think you nailed it on the head, open dilogue is so important, brands need to remember that for some people this is there ‘job’ not just a blog.
These are some great tips for both bloggers and brands! They really can work together well if they know how to.

I have made some fabulous contacts over the years who I love having email chats with. You will have already gauged by now that I can ramble type away forever – it was always my sales approach too, make friends with people! It’s how I have found out some fabulous new recipes over the years, love chatting about food!
Some brands are difficult, for want of a better phrase, when there is no need to be. Bloggers are approachable… basically, we want to put food on the table, subterfuge certainly doesn’t help that. Just be upfront and treat bloggers with the respect they themselves want to be treated with! Sim x
It’s about getting the balance right, although you’d be surprised on the flip side the number of bloggers I’ve had who haven’t been approachable, it’s a shame x

Some top tips here Rhian. I find there is often radio silence after a blogger works with a brand on an opportunity. I now ensure I send them my shares on social media so its easy for them to retweet or share too.

These are really great tips. I would love it if brands/prs are upfront in what they want and what they are willing to give in return. I once had a pr email me back and forth setting up a really great collaboration which involved a lot of work on my part. But then I asked about money and they wanted me to do it all for free. So, If they don’t mention a budget, I always ask, so I know we are on the same page.
Oh yeah 100% I always discuss budget up front so neither of us waste any time. And when I do my own outreach I always say how much I can pay straight out as it won’t be for everyone and I don’t want to waste their time x
I like it when a brand is upfront, I don’t have time to go back and forth over email.
