As We Start To Enter Springtime- February 2021 Overview

Piglets Pantry Valentines Day afternoon tea

February has disappeared in the blink of an eye, unlike the year-long January. Overall February has been a bit of a mixed month. There have been lower periods when the weather was super cold and this lockdown has felt neverending. But then there has been a glimmer of hope with the number of vaccinations and the roadmap that we have. I’m not confident that we’ll be back to normal and allowed in crowds by 21st June. But it’s a nice thought.

Food fun in February

If there’s one thing that can bring a tiny sliver of joy at the moment and that’s food. I really am missing going out for dinners and brunches so with the optimism of the new roadmap I have booked a few things. Just after outdoor seating opens I’ve booked for me and Luke to go to Las Iguanas as it’s somewhere we love. And I’ve booked an indoor brunch for late May, so we’ll see if those happen.

At the very start of February we had a super fun Friday night which included a trip to Costco and then two foodie treats. We started with picking up Timbits from Tim Hortons and then picked up a Nandos takeaway. I brought along plates and cutlery with us so we could eat in the car and feel like we’d had a proper meal out.

Then February included pancake day where I had bacon and maple syrup pancakes for dinner. And then as I wanted some sweet I had chocolate chip and Nutella pancakes after. I was fit to burst but they were super tasty. I also got the opportunity to try out the Piglets Pantry Valentines Day afternoon tea which was so nice. I’m a huge fan of Piglets Pantry and have really missed afternoon teas.

Valentines/ Galentines

On Saturday 13th February me and my school friends had a virtual Galentines Day where we did a DIY afternoon tea which we ate when we were on Zoom. We did a little quiz on ourselves trying to remember the colour of each other’s prom dresses and school crushes. It was such a nice few hours to catch up and reminisce. As we’re not all living in the same town anymore I think we’ll continue to do these after the pandemic as an easier way to keep in touch.

Me and Luke made an online steak order and had an indulgent Valentine’s Day dinner. It absolutely lovely and we started our Marvel rewatch that weekend with Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain Marvel. We’re watching them all in chronological order as opposed to release order and we’re doing pretty well so far.

Things are changing

After all of the snow at the end of January and very start of February I am so happy to be seeing a bit of Springtime. The weather has been getting brighter and sunnier. And it’s lighter in the mornings and evenings which has made such a big difference to my mood. The weather and sun doesn’t usually affect me but being locked up indoors this year has had an impact. Now when I do my 7am Peloton ride it’s no longer pitch dark. And I can finish work and still see a little sunshine.

I downloaded a new habit tracker that I’ve been using every day and it’s really helped me keep on track of habits. I’m trying to be better with my exercise (including getting outside for a little fresh air and a walk each day), limiting my snacking which is a huge downfall, but also my self care. The tracker has been helping me keep on top of the things I usually miss out of my routine.

February at home time

We’ve done a few more home decorations bit around during February including getting some frames up around our bar cart. And a nice canvas print in our kitchen. There’s still more we need to do and things we need to get to make the house just right, but we’ve got plenty of time for that.

Our downstairs toilet has almost been finished after a long hiatus due to the lockdown/ pandemic. The tiles are now totally up, grouted and cleaned and I am so happy with the way the green looks on the walls. Next weekend Luke and his dad are going to fit the suite and then it’s just some accessories to finish the space off. So keep your eyes peeled for a reveal post soon.

How has your February been?

I am so glad we have left February behind, I am always happier in March as Spring is round the corner and colour starts to appear

Sounds like you had a lovely February with all those food! I do love the ideal of the Galentine’s Day Quiz which you had with your friend.

February felt like it just disappeared on me but the weather was bizzare to say the list but glad there is light at the end of this lockdown.

We are going to be rewatching the Marvel movies in chronological order too, it is something we have been planning for quite some time. Sounds like you had an interesting February.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

You’ll have so much fun rewatching, although there are a few discrepancies between the order of a few films and everywhere says different things so we had to make our own choice on those x

We have just moved from the UK to New Zealand, so it is Summer time here and we will be going in to Autumn and Winter here soon enough. That being said, we can’t wait to get things moving with out new life here. Hope you have a great and positive Easter.

    Thanks for Sharing.

I’m loving the longer, brighter days as well. Just wishing it would get a bit warmer! Yes, there is a sense of cautious optimism in the air now. I am starting to think about booking holidays, though not sure what will be allowed and when.

I’m a bit like you, I think I’m going to wait and see how the next one to two stages of the roadmap goes, whether we’re on track with dates etc before booking anything x

Loving the longer days, and signs of spring (which means summer on the way). I too have been on the exercise habit tracker train!

Cake, Cake, Cake! You seriously need to warn me if there are pictures of yummy carby treats… all make me very hungry at the mo but I’m sticking to it. Piglet’s Pantry is great – the cakes are amazing and I love the mix of savoury and yummy cakes!

You have far more energy than I do at 7am! I need to be checking this Peleton thing out, a few of my friends now have spin bikes and I’m feeling left out! 😉

I cannot even remember what we did in February now, time seems to be flying by at the moment! Sim x

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Those pictures have been making me feel hungry too, and you’re right their sweet and savoury mixture is great x

  12. Rachael says:

I am starting to take better care of myself and track my habits too… As well as using Zwift, which is similar to Pelaton. I’m looking forward to seeing what March brings.

I’m highly impresssed that you have already started to book for some meals out. I must do the same, it is nice to be looking forward. I’m going to check out your habits tracker too. Thanks, Mich x

    • Rhian Westbury says:

I like the idea of having them to look forward to, and if they don’t happen as things don’t open when we expect it’s one of those things x

For the first year, February seemed to last forever. I’m glad we’re into March now… better times are coming. 🙂 It does look like you had some nice things. 🙂
