*This is a collaborative post but all words and thoughts on allergy testing are my own
Differing dietary requirements are something that has developed and become more of a thing in recent times. For some, it’s just due to lifestyle choices, but for others, it’s due to allergies. And allergy affects around 1 in 4 adults in the UK which is quite a lot of people. Around half of these people haven’t had a diagnosis from a doctor. And most don’t even know what they’re allergic to and just get symptoms on and off. This does always make me wonder whether I have an allergy. Something that I’m unaware of and I’d only know about through allergy testing.
Allergies can run in the family so if members of your family have things like asthma, eczema, hayfever or other allergies there’s a chance you might too.
An allergic reaction happens when your immune system mistakenly identifies a harmless substance as a thread and takes defensive action. Things that trigger an allergic reaction are called allergens and they can include pollen, dust mites, pets, insect venom, mould spores and different types of food.
Allergies can affect your life and make a huge difference in how you feel. Luke has really bad hayfever so is allergic to pollen and it gets so bad that he struggles to sleep, gets a really blocked nose so it affects his breathing and so much more.
Symptoms can range depending on what you’re allergic to. Pollen, house mites, moulds spores and pets can cause itchy, watery eyes, a runny nose, a blocked or stuffy nose and frequent sneezing. Food allergens can cause things like bloating, nausea, skin reactions and itching, and so much more.
If you experience a symptom it can be hard to know what you’re allergic to without having a test.
Allergy testing can help to find out which triggers may be causing your symptoms. And it may help rule some out. It won’t be able to diagnose you as only a doctor can do that. But it can alert you to the triggers so you can try and avoid what sets of your allergy. It can also provide a starting point if you do have allergies. If so, consider consulting a GP.
You can get a home allergy test to do yourself. And Klarify.me have a home testing kit that uses sophisticated technology to test for 294 different allergens. You just provide a blood sample and the rest is down to them. Plus it only takes two weeks to get comprehensive and reliable results back to you.
The precision allergen component testing detects your body’s reactions to both allergen extracts and allergenic components. So that it can narrow down what you may be allergic to and what individual proteins you’re allergic to. The test results can indicate if you’re sensitised to the different allergens tested for. And sensitisation can give a good indication of potential allergy triggers. Sensitisation doesn’t always lead to symptoms, but symptoms don’t develop without sensitisation.

We suffer from allergies, but sometimes there are days when the symptoms just appear even without the “known” trigger. It would be nice to find out if we are allergic to something else. This home test kit is a big help.
All five of us suffer from allergies , Bain of my life ! This would come in handy for sure
Oh wow that’s a lot of allergies x
I am not sure – I definitely have an allergy to pollen as I get awful hayfever but I think I might also be allergic to cats. I haven’t had testing before but it is something I would consider.
I really should do this. I have allergies to pollen and used to have eczema when I was younger
Wow this is a great way to test for allergies. I remember the whole going in and having it done in person, this would be so much more convenient!
It gives you a good starting point to know where your allergies might be coming from x
I would love to test my whole family especially my son who reacts to certain food just to see if we have any allergies
I think I may be allergic to cats too, because I start sneezing and get watery eyes when I go to my brother’s house. He has 11 cats in his house. 🙁 I would like to find out if I am, so that I could avoid the allergen or take medication for it.
Wow 11 cats, yes you definitely want to find out so you can protect yourself if you do have allergies x
These are great tests and make it really easy to find out what the allergens are that affect you. We’re just coming in to hayfever season for me!
These would definitely come in handy in our house. All four of us seem to have different reactions to things and have allergies.
These at home test kits are great and means if you do feel you have an allergy you can find out much quicker than waiting on conventional tests
These home testing kits are a fab idea! There are so many allergies around these days. I’m fortunate not to suffer that badly but did pick up on some hayfever during the warmer months – mainly suffering with my eyes. Sunglasses are always a must! Sim xx
This sounds wonderful, I could definitely do with this for some things, especially pollen. I think it would be really useful for families.
