Table centre piece with candles and a planter

*AD- Some of the items in this home decor post have been gifted. Those that have been gifted have been marked with a *

Home decor is one of my favourite areas to spend money on. There’s nothing I love more than buying new furniture, storage solutions, home accessories and soft furnishings. Although my bank balance probably wouldn’t agree with my heart. Ever since me and Luke got the keys to our house last March I’ve been on a mission to make it our dream home. And we’re close. Every time I look around and realise that this space is ours it makes me smile. And I feel very lucky.

But I don’t think the home will ever be completely ‘done’. There will always be an empty wall that needs artwork, or a cupboard that needs better storage. But today I’m going to show you some of my favourite new home decor items that have made their way into our home.

Home decor- Dining table centre piece

Like most people our dining table had become a bit of a dumping ground. It’s right near our front door and it would get covered in boxes from deliveries, keys and bags when we came in and rubbish from our *cough* Luke’s pockets. While I’m trying to work out a solution of where to put those items I wanted to turn the table into a bit more of a feature. If the top was empty then we wouldn’t appreciate it for what it is.

So we got an antique brass effect candle holder*, and a shorter squat friend to sit alongside. I’d been meaning to get some pillar candle holders for a while and having these means we have a bit of a centre piece to the table. They are a really good weight without being heavy, and the antique brass finish is really pretty.

When we do get kittens the candles will be changing to LED ones, but for now I’ve got some real ones. Although realistically these will probably never be lit and just used for decoration. Later in the year when I dress the table for Christmas the antique brass look will go really well with the reds and golds in our decor. And these are going to be perfect to use at our wedding on our welcome table as part of the decor, multi-use!

Pillar candles and candle holders

Giant planter

Have you ever seen a planter as beautiful as this one?! No I didn’t think so. This antique bronze squat planter* is the dream of a planter. It’s actually so big that my indoor plants aren’t quite big enough for it so I’m going to need to watch a few months for one of them to grow and need a new home.  It’s a whopper at 29cm in size so if you’ve got a bigger this would be a great home for it. I think a tall spiky or afro style plant would be great in here.

As you can see while it’s plant-less I’ve put it on my dining table to be used as storage and it works really well against the candle holders. The antique bronze colour is perfect as it’s shiny but isn’t too bright or yellowy like you find with some bronzes.

Home decor- Dried plant display

So my vase of dried plants isn’t super new, but I’ve picked up little bit over the past six months. All of the pieces were picked up from Etsy starting with this amber/ brown coloured glass vase. I like the bit of colour in the vase, but that it’s super simple. It has quite a wide opening for stems but not so wide that the stems move too much. I love the combination I have in there including pampas grass, eucalyptus and gold palm leaves.

There’s a lot of space on the bottom of our fireplace so I wanted these stems to add a bit of height to the area. And to draw a bit of attention.

Tall candle holders on the mantle piece

Home decor- Palm tree candle holders

Now for another style of candle holder but something a bit more decorative. I have a pair of these antique bronze palm tree candle holders*, can you sense a theme with the colour?! Tropical inspired homeware is everywhere, and soon our downstairs loo will be covered in palm print paper. So that is where we ultimately see these candle holders going. Not that you’d light a candle in the downstairs loo but because it matches the aesthetic.

These candles holders are beautifully quirky and will brighten up any space. And they’re a really good size measuring 44.5cm in height. You can even get a taller one at 54cm! These candle holders are really intricate and well made and while they may be moving their way round our house until they go find their perfect spot they’re a talking point.

Digital photo frame

I’m a massive fan of photos and we have quite a few around our house. But I have way more photos than I have space on the walls, so this Carver Digital Frame* from Aura Frames came at the right time. It has unlimited photo storage and you can get photos straight off your photo and onto the frame. It has a HD 10.1inch display with great screen resolution so photos come out looking sharp.

I had a digital photo frame about a decade ago and it was chunky and not particularly decorative. But this one is stylish and minimal so it fits perfectly into any home’s decor. The touch bar is at the top of the frame and it’s really discreet. Digital photo frames are great gifts for family who you may not see that often as you can share photos from anywhere in the world. I love the idea of these as a gift to our parents when we get our wedding photos back (after we get married) as it’s a great way to display all the memories.
