Four Reasons I Can’t Wait To Go On A Cruise

Me and Luke have officially booked our first overseas holiday for November 2022. It’s a little while away in the hope that things settle more with the virus and travel restrictions become a lot easier by then *fingers crossed* We’ve spoken a few times about going on a cruise and finally that dream is becoming a reality.

Luke’s been on a cruise once before, but I’ve never experienced it. If you’d asked me 6 years ago if I’d go on a cruise I’d probably have said no. But I’ve been warming to the idea for a while and now I’m so excited. We fly out to Rome to embark on the cruise and it covers Monaco, Italy, Greece and Turkey including Santorini and Corfu. And then we finish in Athens and we plan on spending a few additional days there exploring the city. Even though I’ve been to Greek islands I’ve never been to mainland Greece so I’m very excited. And other than Rome I’ve never been to any of the locations we’re set to visit over 11 days.

If you’ve been on the fence about cruises here are four reasons why I can’t wait to go on one.

Cruise boats are insane for activities

I still can’t get over how much there can be on a single ship. Like you could not leave the boat for the whole trip and not get bored. Although why wouldn’t you want to see some beautiful locations?! We’re booked with Norweigan Star and on our boat there’s a theatre, pools, hot tubs, a spa, golf driving nets, a basketball/ volleyball court, a casino, an arcade and a wine cellar. And that’s not to mention all the restaurants and bars/ lounges that I’ll talk about later.

There are three shows running during our cruise so we’ll be booked into all of them over the 11 days. And I’ve already been browsing the spa list to see what I fancy having done.

All the food on the boat

There are 13 places to eat on the boat, so more than enough to switch around different meals at different places every day. And again I want to try it all from Asian fusion to French bistro, from Steakhouse to an Irish pub. Everything is catered for. About half of the restaurants are complimentary for all passengers and the other half are ‘specialty’. But when we booked we got a package that included the specialty dining as it worked out such good value.

Then there are ten bars alongside this including a Mojito Bar and a Champagne bar. I’m looking forward to sipping many a cocktail during our trip.

Waking up in a new place each day

But one of the biggest wins for being on a cruise is waking up in a new place every day. We don’t have any complete sea days so every morning we’ll be in a new location. And I love that idea! I’m a big fan of going to multiple places on a trip but the travel time and costs usually put me off. But as the travel is done through the night it means you can spend the day in a place and then the travelling is done when you sleep.

With a cruise, you don’t need to plan the locations and how to get to them. You just get on the boat and all the hard work is done for you.  There’s no driving, no navigating tricky public transport, and no maps needed. And you only need to unpack in one place, there’s no living out of a suitcase.

The cruise excursions to get a first impression of each place

As we’ll be in a new location every day I’m keen to explore as much as I can. While not overdoing it and going out on 10-hour excursions every day. There’s a lot to experience in each place and a single day certainly won’t be enough, but it’s a good starting point. I’m hoping to work out from the trip how much I like places, and where I’d love to go back to again.

Have you ever been on a cruise?

I have done small boat cruises but never one of the big ships. Maybe once the world gets back to normal, I will look into it.

I never really understood cruises, but I guess I didn’t know much about them! I didn’t know there were lots of places to eat on them! How fun.

They’re like cities on the sea, you don’t even have to leave there’s so much to do. Theatre shows, cinemas, go karts, climbing walls, pools, water slides, comedy shows, shopping, restaurants and bars and so much more x
