*This is a collaborative post on future trips I want to take
Travel posts are a bit of a weird place at the moment. Pretty much all travel has been suspended and I really feel for the travel companies who are going to feel the effects. Our trip to Portugal next weekend has been postponed. But all the companies involved have been incredibly accommodating. While I’m spending the indefinite future at home in the UK it doesn’t stop me thinking ahead. I thought I’d talk about some of the future trips I want to take when travelling becomes a safe option again.
One of the big ones for me is Orlando. It’s been on my wish list for a long time to spend time on the golden beaches. But also to spend time in all the Disney parks. Florida theme park tickets aren’t cheap so it will definitely be a holiday I’ll be saving up for. But when we do get there I’m keen to do everything I can from Epcot and Disney to water parks and Legoland.
I’m a huge kid at heart so it would be an amazing holiday. Luke isn’t a fan of rides though so I’d definitely need to tailor the holiday between us both. So I’d be picking the parks which have more than just rollercoasters. But then pin picking the absolute best rides to go on.
We’ve spoken about doing a cruise a few times now. And one of the future trips I want to take is a Caribbean cruise. After our first trip to the Caribbean last year, and then a second for me later in the year I’m keen to explore more. The longer days of sunshine and relaxation are just what I need. But coupled with the attractions and things to do on a cruise ship between destinations.
This is definitely something we’ve considered as part of our honeymoon in a few year’s time so we’ll see. I love the idea of getting glimpses of lots of places to know where appeals to go back. And everything I’ve experienced of the Caribbean so far has been amazing.
Me and Luke absolutely love Italy and celebrated our first anniversary on a trip there. We spent a few days in Venice and a further few in Rome. It was heartbreaking to see how the effects of no tourism is affecting the country (and all countries). There was so much we loved about Italy when we’ve been previously. The friendly people, the cultural spots, and the food. My god the food! So it would be good to go back and explore more.
One of the future trips I want to take is a cross country trip heading to loads of places like Milan, Pisa, Vernazza, Verona, Florence, and back to Venice. Their train system was great when we used it before so I think we’d stick to public transport. I’m a huge fan of visiting a few places over a trip and I’m sure we could see a lot within two weeks.
Now, this is probably one of the biggest future trips I want to take. My uncle lives in New Zealand and he’s mentioned visiting quite a few times. We’ve spoken it a few times and know it’s somewhere we want to go, but it will be a big trip. We’d likely want 3 weeks away which would cost a lot across airfare and money to spend. But also as Luke is self-employed we’d need to cover for 3 weeks of lost earnings. Although the trip (and Hobbiton specifically) will be well worth the planning.
For future trips, I want to take we’re hoping to be able to do one big holiday a year after we’ve settled in our house. Then the odd city break here and there. But until we get properly settled into the house and our new finances we don’t know how it will work.
The final dream location to visit would be Japan. It’s not something we’ve specifically talked about but I know we’d both love it. From the beautiful surroundings to the high tech cities. I’d love to experience it all. I’m pretty sure we’d end up doing some sort of tour as there’s a lot to see. But that’s something for us to look into.

Once things go back to normal I would love as well to return to Italy and take a long trip, driving through the countryside. It is such a stunning country and it’s so sad what is happening there at the moment. š
It really is and my worry is that this will affect businesses and countries forever and it may never go back to ‘normal’ x
Iāve always wanted to go to Japan and I would love to visit New Zealand because my cousin moved there a couple of years ago. One of our cousins was meant to visit her this summer which looks like it will have to be cancelled
Its funny with everything going on to think where i would ike to go in the future, New york, Orlando (disney), New zealand as im a big fan of LOTR, are all ones that jump to my mind, however just taking the kids anway is a short term priority, let alone whats happening at the moment.
You’re so right. Any trip being safe with your kids is the best thing! x
You’ve got some wonderful destinations on your list, it has made me think about the future trips that I would like to take
Oh I love this little list . A Caribbean cruise is on the top of my list for a well deserved break when this is all over for sure
Orlando is definitely on our list of places to travel to, I am dying to take the kids to Disney world! It seems so strange at the moment but thinking about future plans can only be positive and give you something to look forward to.
I’d love to go to Orlando and Japan! I think for me, my must-visit places when this is all over are Bali, Mexico again and I’d also like to travel around America (around Halloween time). I’d love to visit Roswell haha.
Yes I’d love to do Salem at Halloween and 100% Bali. I#m meant to be going in November but I think it might be postponed x
I would love to go to Japan as I have never been there. Totally love New Zealand and can’t wait to head back there again. Hope you are able to make it to these places
Agreed with this – itās always nice to plan ahead and while things are uncertain now itās temporarily and fingers crossed all will be ok in a few months. You sure have a good list here. Japan is on my list
I am hoping to do a cruise around Finland and Norway for my 40th in a couple of years. It’s terrible to see how badly tourism across the world is being affected.
Yeah it is scary how much of a toll it’s going to have on the travel industry x
We’re not huge travellers and hadn’t booked a summer holiday before the world went on lockdown. Hopefully we will get to go camping somewhere.
Orlando is somewhere I have dreamt of going all my life and in the last three years we managed to go as a family, twice. I would love to say we will go again next year but I have no idea how the world will be. Fingers crossed we both get to plan our future trips soon
Wow you must have loved it go back so quickly! Fingers crossed for next year x
Ah amazing, I canāt wait until we can start traveling again
I cannot wait to start travelling again and a few of these are on my list. New Zealand definitely for me
Such a fab list of destinations! I really want to get to Iceland, the draw of the Northern Lights pulling me in x
Some great choices here Rhian. I’d love to spend more time exploring Italy and travel deeper, rather than just city visits.
