*This is a collaborative post with CARAT* London but all words, thoughts and opinions are my own
I have been obsessed with jewellery ever since I was a young girl, spying on my mum and nan’s collections. And this was only amplified when I got a job in a high street jewellers at 17 and stayed there for a number of years.
Jewellery can dress up an outfit, and it can make us food good. While we all have days where a dress doesn’t sit how we’d like it to, or our trusty heels are just rubbing our feet. But jewellery is just jewellery. And as soon as you put it on it makes you smile.
I’m always on the look out for beautiful designs, and am always drawn to things with stars and moons on them. So it was only natural that I was drawn to the Misoma Drop Necklace from CARAT* London.
CARAT* London have been creating fine jewellery for almost 20 years and now sell at over 100 places around the world including Selfridges & Co.
The brand is run by husband and wife duo Scott and Heidi. And their mission was (and is) to create fashion and fine jewellery exclusively using the best alternatives to mined gemstones. The brand continue that to this day and focus on non-mined gemstones. This means the jewellery that they create and sell is ethically sourced and conflict free.
The brand have plenty of celebrity fans including Lady Gaga, Emma Willis and Courtney Love. And their jewellery was used in the season one launch of Gossip Girl. And you may have seen the brand name because they’re a sponsor of the British Academy of Film and Television Artists (BAFTAs).
As soon as I saw this necklace I fell in love with the beautiful star motif and delicate stones. It’s made in Sterling Silver with a White Gold Finish so it has that extra shine. But it will never change colour. One thing I love about this is the drop that runs down from the main star on chain, and it’s such a great length to jazz up another otherwise plain outfit.
The necklace itself features both brilliant round and micro set cubic zirconia stones. The necklace is both delicate and sophisticated, but modern and stylish. I’m finding that a lot of brands are using stars and other celestial iconography in their designs.
This particular necklace is priced at £189, a bargain compared to the price of a diamond alternative.
I remember when I used to work in a jewellers people would come in and ask us whether stones in their rings were ‘real diamonds’. Sometimes it was obvious by looking at them, other times you really had to look deep and test them to be truly sure. To most untrained eyes, lab created diamonds and diamonds look the same. They’re both sparkly, eye catching and look stunning in jewellery. But lab created diamonds are both more affordable, but also more environmentally friendly.
As the stones have been made in a lab as opposed to mined thousands of miles away and transported over they have a far smaller environmental footprint. They use less water and energy to create, and they’re completely conflict free.
