*This is a collaborative post on updating the exterior of your home
Every day you enter your house several times and probably barely even notice what it looks like these days. This means that it is likely not looking nearly as fresh as it should and you aren’t able to see it. Once you do go out and give it a proper look, it’s likely you’ll see some areas that need freshening up.
When you update a few things on your home’s exterior, you’ll find that you’ve added more value to the home and feel like it is far cozier than it was before. In this article, we will go over several items you should have on your list for upgrading your home’s exterior.
You don’t have to do an entire garage remodel, but you should at least do something about the door. A new garage door will do a lot to change the appearance of your house as people see it from the street. In some cases, this may be all that’s needed to give your home a fresh look.
A garage door needs to be maintained over the years and is often something that ends up looking tired fairly quickly if it is not taken care of well. Broken hinges and old springs can get rusty and the rust can drip and stain the front of the door. Plus, since the door is often moving, the paint can chip and crack and look pretty bad.
Call a garage door company and get some estimates. It may be worth it to also install an up-to-date automatic door while you are doing the upgrade.
A new, shiny and updated front door will put a smile on your face every time you walk up the path. It makes a big difference in the look of the front of the house just the same way that a new garage door does.
The front door ends up taking a lot of abuse from the sun and weather. The paint can crack, chip, and fade and it begins to look tired very quickly. It can even look out of date if the style was trendy sometime in the past.
No greenery in the front yard is something that gives the house a dull and uninviting appearance. Putting in some shrubs in a line along the front of the house and even along the walkway will improve the look of the house dramatically.
Make sure to add some landscaping features to complete the picture by doing a rock lining around the perimeter of the shrubs. Mulch the area well and refresh the mulch every season. Mulch will break down and turn to compost, which is great for the plants but not great for the aesthetics of the front of the house.
Seashell and gravel look great in a driveway when it’s first installed. However, after some time passes, it ends up washing away and compacting in areas. It can also get uneven and create puddles in spots when it rains.
A paved driveway looks better for longer and is easier to maintain.
