My Birthday Month – January 2022 Overview

It felt so strange to type 2022 into the title of this post. It hardly seems fair that it’s 2022 after missing out on quite a bit the past few years. But as always when January is grey and cold I have my birthday to look forward to so the month is never quite that bad. And I actually had quite a lovely January 2022.

Taking time for myself in January 2022

We started the month with a bed day. We’d planned it and sorted out the boys automatic feeder and we spent an entire day chilling in bed. Something I’ve not done since I was a kid and it was glorious. We ordered brunch and dinner from Deliveroo because why not?! We watched two movies, we watched YouTube and I finished reading my book. It was so nice and relaxing and something I’d love to do every few months.

For most of the month Luke has been working away four days a week leaving on Monday morning and coming back Thursday evening. And I will admit the first week was tough, and I do miss him. But I’ve made sure to allow myself time for myself during the days he’s off. So weekly bubble baths, lots of relaxing, face masks and a bit of self care and it’s been quite nice.

For my birthday Luke got me an LED face mask that I’d wanted for ages. So I’ve been using that three times a week and for 10 minutes I have to sit down and close my eyes. So I can’t do anything, and I’ll admit it’s been quite nice to not be on my phone, or watching something.

How am I now 32?!

It genuinely feels like 2 minutes since I turned 30 and started the next chapter of my life. And now I’m 32, how did that happen?! But I was lucky to have a non-lockdown birthday in January 2022 and it was lovely.

My actual birthday was the Friday and me and Luke were both off work. I got a pancake breakfast and just relaxed all day doing my own thing. Then in the evening I went to see my family and we ordered a Lebanese feast for us all which was so good. It was nice to be with everyone but in the comfort of my parent’s house.

Then Luke took me out on the Saturday for a day of fun and food. We ended up in London earlier than expected so we got to wander round while it was pretty quiet which was really nice. Then we started off with breakfast at Sketch which had been on my to eat at list for ages. Then we did a bit of shopping including a trip to Daunt books in Marlyebone which was stunning! And we stopped for a pastry snack at Oree near Leicester Square.

Then Luke surprised me with tickets to see Back to the Future which was absolutely amazing. The whole spectacle was incredible and the cast was so good. A real fun show that you all need to see. And we finished off eating in the pizza and pasta restaurant at Eataly by Liverpool Street Station which was amazing. Gotta love proper Italian food.

Entertainment in January 2022

My gig in January got postponed, what a surprise. So it was another music less month. But I did get to the theatre once to see Addams Family in Milton Keynes. This had been postponed a number of times but we finally got there and it was so much fun and had me laughing a lot. It’s touring at the moment so it’s definitely one to look out for.

I headed to the cinema right at the start of the month to see West Side Story. The movie itself was good but there were no subtitles during the Spanish speaking parts so there were points of the movie where I had to guess the conversations happening which did tarnish my enjoyment a little bit. Then at the very end of the month I took my nan to see Belfast.

One thing I did a lot of in January 2022 was reading. I think my Goodreads shows 9 books in January, although there was two audiobooks and a few shorter reads. But either way I’ve loved getting stuck into loads of books.

Trying my best to be social

I’m really trying to get that balance of relaxing time to myself and self care mixed with being social and seeing the people who mean the most to me. And I think January 2022 was a pretty good month for that. I didn’t have any extreme weekends where I was out or doing something both days which was nice. This is something I want to continue into 2022.

I saw a local friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time which was really nice. And I had a zoom call with my wider group of friends from school and it was great to see peoples faces. Then I met my best friend for dessert around my birthday which was so yummy, and then dinner later in the month. And another few friends came to mine to meet the cats for the first time. Just lots of wholesome fun.

How was your January 2022?

A day in bed just chlling sounds amazing, sadly even when ill I don’t seem to get to do this. I love the sound of the face mask

My January was ok – I also turned 32 but Jack caught Covid so we had to cancel my birthday plans! It was busy and tiring but ok other than that!
