Restrictions for going out and spending time with your loved ones might be over. But that doesn’t mean you have to go out for Valentines Day this year. The few years I’ve been out on the 14th February it’s been busy and quite expensive. So I’m a big fan of Valentines Day at home.
Being at home doesn’t have to mean the day goes past without celebration. And it doesn’t mean that it won’t be as special as there are tonnes of things you can do at home with your loved one. Heck even if you’re single you can do most of these things with your girlfriends. I would have done anything for a special Galentines Day when I was single.
Here are some ways you can spend Valentines Day at home but still make it special.
If you’re going out for a fancy evening what’s the first thing you start with? A drink of course.
Because it’s Valentines Day you don’t have to just pop the top of any old bottle of wine. It’s cocktail time! For rum lovers, Decorrum spiced rum* is a great way to make your drink feel a bit special because firstly isn’t the bottle absolutely incredible?! The rum is made from 100% natural ingredients including home gown Honeycomb from Manchester Bees, Rhubarb and Vanilla. And as a way of giving back every time you buy a bottle of the rum you adopt a bee and a £1 donation is given to the charity Forever Manchester.
The art deco-inspired rum has some spicy aromas that hit you first with Ginger, Cinnamon and Clove. Then the Orange Peel and Rhubarb kick in when you start to drink it. Finishing up with the taste of vanilla and that homegrown honeycomb.
If you or your other half are more of a whisky drinker then Bushmills® Irish Whiskey* is just what you need. Bushmills is home to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery at over 400 years old on the north coast of Ireland. And you can’t beat a great single malt whiskey, especially this 10 year old one.
You can have the whiskey neat, or you could even try making the Singular Tales cocktail. It was created by Sunday Brunches’ Pritesh Mody with inspiration from a poem by George the Poet. And it was even served at George the Poet’s wedding in Uganda.
It wouldn’t be a special occasion with some food to accompany your drinks.
Having a Valentines Day at home is a good opportunity for you to cook together and you what better way to start than with the international chilli collection*. I bought my mum a curry set like this last year and her and my dad love using it to make dinner together. In the collection, you get 7 chillies with a metal spoon for accurate measures so you won’t go too overboard. This is perfect for any couple who like using unusual flavours, but also like it hot.
You get a recipe guide as well so you can work out ahead of time what you fancy cooking. There are some quick and easy dishes alongside some more adventurous ones. And it’s all wrapped beautifully in a hand-sewn silk sari wrap.
The icing on the cake?! Every time you buy a spice tin you’re helping to ensure a schoolchild receives a nutritious meal in the UK and India
One of my favourite things to do on any day, especially Valentines Day at home is to do my own DIY spa treatments. Me and Luke are both huge fans of pampering and relaxation.
To begin with, you want the bedroom/ bathroom/ where ever you’re relaxing to smell nice. I have this beautiful set of reed diffuser and candle* from ARRAN Sense of Scotland to create the right mood. The brand creates bath, body and home fragrance collections inspired by and proudly made on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. The family-run company has been going for three decades and evoke scents from its Home Farm factory- an old dairy farm near the historic Brodick Castle.
There’s a bit of Arran in every product whether it’s the freshwater spring or a pinch of seasoned gorse. The set itself is inspired by a desire to capture the fresh scent of an Arran garden following a rainstorm. And it’s such a unique and beautiful scent. There’s a bit of rose, lime and sandalwood. The set itself comes with a reed diffuser and an 8cl travel candle with a burn time of 12 hours.
For something super relaxing I have these lavender candles* from Vegan Bunny. They are another family-owned brand that focuses on Vegan and eco-friendly products that are not just plastic-free but carbon neutral as well. The brand support two different charities, and for every order placed a tree is planted. All of the candles are made with natural ingredients and waxes including pure essential oils, and the lavender scent is so relaxing and perfect for the bedroom. Lavender reduces nervous tension and stress and is peaceful.
The smaller candle has a burn time of around 25 hours, and the larger candle has a burn time of around 50 hours.
The main thing about a DIY spa day for me is feeling relaxed and cosy. And to feel cosy you can’t beat a good dressing gown.
I got the Samantha bobble fur hooded dressing gown* and the Moore flannel fleece dressing gown* for Luke and they’re both super snuggly as they’re soft to touch and cosy for the colder months. As February is usually pretty cold they’re great to throw on over PJ’s or when you’re jumping out of the bath. The ladies dressing gown comes in three different colours and sits around knee length with a tie waist belt. There are even concealed pockets so you can pop your phone in there for the dash around the house. I’m planning to wear mine while snuggling up on the sofa watching a movie.
The men’s dressing gown is just as cosy but made with soft fleece lining as opposed to fur with contrasting coloured panels. Again it’s knee length with a tie waist belt and two front pockets. One thing Luke loves about this one is the hood as a lot of dressing gowns now don’t come with hoods!
Personally, I don’t think you can beat a big bubble bath with all the products. Maybe a soothing face mask DIY facial or even a lovely massage.
Sometimes my pampering and treatments become a bit more practical. Those beauty tasks that you never find the time for like using a dermaplaner. As I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed the peach fuzz on my face more often. This is known as vellus hair and the fine layer increases as you age. But there’s a simple way to remove it without having to wax or go to a salon and that’s dermaplanning.
You use a special exfoliating brush to clear away the unwanted hairs and any dead skins. It leaves your skin brighter and smoother without pain or chemicals. I have the DermaQueen Vibra-Sonic™ Dermaplae exfoliator* and the first time I used it I couldn’t believe the difference. Even my make-up sits on my face better.
The DermaQueen has two speeds to choose from and the safety guard prevents any nicks or cuts. It’s professional-grade with stainless steel changeable blades and it’s USB rechargeable so easy to keep charged up where ever you use it.
Just because you choose to spend Valentines Day at home doesn’t mean you can’t plan for future trips and activities. I love giving experience gifts, or just planning to do things together. Date nights and activities as a couple are so important. And I love having a calendar full of things to look forward to.
Buyagift have a lot of different experience vouchers, and the Date Night Gift Experience Voucher for Two* is a great choice to plan a date evening or day together. The voucher is priced at £59 and offers over 2,000 experiences across the UK. From meals and cocktail experiences to sightseeing and glamping trips. A box like this is a great gift for you both and you can choose the activity or experience together. I have narrowed it down to theatre tickets to see Tina, cocktails and treats at Mr Foggs Gin Parlous, A Jet Speedboat experience on the Thames or bottomless brunch at the Hard Rock Hotel. A real mixture there!
You can also opt for a Vex card* which can be used to buy a whole load of different vouchers including restaurants, activities, supermarkets and more. The VEX gift card is a great option when you don’t know what gift to give. And again as a couple it may give you some money towards a meal out or an activity date. You can get a card in values from £10 to £250.
If you scroll through Instagram you may see loads of photos of lavish gifts and people spending a lot of money. But that’s not what Valentines Day is about. Gifts don’t need to cost the earth, it’s the thought that goes into them that’s important.
I’m a big fan of his and her matching presents so these Bespoke scents at £9.99 each are a great option. The women’s scent is Bergamot and Rose Musk which is both crisp and fruity with underlying notes of jasmine, rose and vanilla. It’s a beautiful rounded scent which is bold and powerful without being overbearing. The men’s scent is Black Suede and Fougere which is both fruity and aromatic with scents of suede and amber that complement each other. The rosemary and lavender scent balances out the woody spicy layer and it just smells of a really great man.
Who says socks have to be boring?! Definitely not Jimmy Lion where this Jurassic World set* has come from.
Jimmy Lion started in 2014 in New York when two friends left their banking jobs to set up he company. The wanted to create original premium-quality socks at a reasonable price. Quality being the number one priority the socks are manufactured in Europe using the best factories, and the socks are made from high-quality combed cotton and it’s so soft. The other important thing for them are the unique and fun designs and patterns.
This Jurassic World quad is amazing with four designs in fun colours with different dinosaurs all over them. What more do you need?! I’ve also got my eyes on some Back to the Future ones next!

I’m with you and do not feel the need to go out on Valentine’s Day. These are great ideas. We like to celebrate at home with drinks and a nice dinner, or even just a comfort food meal. We choose to not do gifts but we do spend quality time together. We also love to plan our next adventure at home.
I do prefer the idea of doing things together as we buy each other little presents etc whenever just because x
I’ll be cooking dinner for us and our kids will be serving us outside on the patio.
How nice x
That is what we end up doing every year, spend it at home. We usually cook a good meal together and just have amazing time.
This sounds like a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. It is nice to have some ideas to make it special.
I’m of the group of people who want to go out for V Day–especially since we could not for the last 2 years.
Now I need a new dressing gown or house coat as we call
Them and one with a fluffy hood is calling my name! Some great ideas x
I love the name house coat, that’s what my cardigan dressing gown now needs to be called x
These are some brilliant ideas. I love the sound of that rum – I could definitely see myself enjoying a bottle of that on Valentine’s Day!
Great topic especially with the pandemic still going on. For me and my husband these are great options. I have never had the Decorrum spiced rum it seems delicious I would like to try it. Although I may not use the candles for Valentine’s Day it would be nice to have that fragrance in the home.
I think a relaxing vday is great. I want to be cozy.
I love the planning future idea. I’ve never heard of that and might actually do that this Valentine’s. Thanks for sharing!
