Seven Reasons Why 2000 Trees Cemented Itself As My Favourite Festival

After buying tickets in July 2019, the time finally came to head back to 2000 trees. After taking two years out thanks to the pandemic it felt really good to be back and enjoying what has now become my favourite festival.

We headed to 2000 trees for the first time in 2018, followed by a full weekend in 2019. And we’ve already bought our 2023 tickets as they’re 20% off in the first week after the festival which cuts the price down quite a bit.

The lineup changed multiple times thanks to the two-year delay, and a lot changed. But I had the absolute best four days in the sunshine with a great group of people. And even the camping side hasn’t put me off, mainly thanks to a good setup!

But here are some of the reasons why 2000 trees has cemented itself as my favourite festival.

The festival site size

You do a lot of walking at festivals, 2000 trees included, but the site size at trees is considerably smaller than any other festival I’ve been to. It was about a 10-minute walk from the car park to the campsite, less than 5 minutes between stages, and even from the furthest stage back to camp, it was only about 5 minutes.

Having a smaller festival site makes a huge difference. Whenever we needed a rest out of the sunshine, or just had a break in our band schedule we’d walk back to camp and grab a drink.

The campsite extended to an additional field this year as the attendance grew from 10,000 to 15,000 but unless you arrive quite late you can get a good close spot.

2000 trees alternate stage times

I know a lot of festivals do this now, and at 2000 trees it’s more out of necessity due to how close some of the stages are but it makes planning your day so much easier. The cave and Axiom stages alternate times, and the main and Neu stages do this as well.

So it means there’s slightly less chance of clashes in the lineup. And if you’re waiting for a band at one stage you could hear/ sometimes see the alternate stage. We did this quite a bit when we’d be sat at the Neu Stage 10-15 minutes before a band started and we’d listen from a distance to the band on the main stage.

The alternative stages and fun things

There are five music stages including The Forest which offers all types of music, but there’s so much more. The Word stage is in a really prominent position and this year included talks such as the Alternative Book Club and Safe Gigs for Women, sessions such as a Ukele workshop, and comedy performances.

But it’s later in the evening that things really come alive. There are multiple busking/ tiny campsite stages where you can find acts playing right through to 3 o clock in the morning. Sadly I was way too tired from a day in the sunshine to head to any but I wish I’d got to see Heartwork playing Enema of the State covers and Oxygen Thief.

You can take your own drinks around 2000 trees

Alcohol can be expensive when you head into the arena at a festival. And at most festivals, you can take your own to the campsite but not when you go into the arena/ music area. So this gives you the option of not drinking at all, downing alcohol at camp, spending most of the day not seeing bands, or spending so much time and money at the bar.

But at 2000 trees you don’t have this issue. You can take your own food and drinks anywhere you want onsite. We bought a small cooler rucksack and carried around water and cans of cider/ cocktails with us throughout. This saved us so much money, and it encouraged us to spread out drinking and not just down stuff at camp.

Sounds fab! I had not heard of this festival before. We have done a few festivals Elderflower Fields, Into the Trees, Chilled in a Field, Joy and the Medieval festival which are all in Kent and Sussex.

I’ve not heard of this festival but I’m with you – I really like small festivals where you can actually see what’s happening on stage. Will have to check this out for future!

I have never been to a festival before. It looks like so much fun. Festival on a small scale maybe makes it more intimate.

I’ve never been to a music festival but it sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe when my boys are a bit older, we can find one to go to as a family.

Ohh it is nice they allow you to take your own drinks. I went to a festival recently and you could only buy drinks, but you also had to purchase specific cup for 5Ā£ that was non-refundable to get any of the drinks too? It was weird.

Oh goodness, I swear I heard about that at download festival at some point. They’re just hoping people lose the cups and have to rebuy I bet x
