The Unistrut system (or any other metal framing system!) is a DIYer’s dream. There are countless ways of using and reusing a metal framing system. This gives you endless options to create a variety of projects. These are adaptable, flexible and versatile, and can be used again and again. What’s there not to like?
Unistrut is one of the manufacturer trade names given to the strut channel. It is a standardised structural system that is often used to support wiring, plumbing and even mechanical components. Speedy Fixings explained that the “Unistrut system offers an adjustable and reusable system that can be arranged and rearranged to meet your requirements.” This is done by connecting the channel or strut with a variety of strut fittings and accessories.
Unistrut projects can be assembled quickly and with minimal work as it doesn’t require drilling and welding. So they are the perfect system for any type of DIYer. So, whether you are a beginner or an experienced DIYer, metal framing systems will allow you to create a variety of projects.
If you are looking for fun and unique ways to use Unistrut, I’ve put together some of my favourite projects using various metal framing systems (Unistrut or not!). Hopefully, this will give you some inspiration to create something of your own.
Unistrut was used at a fashion boutique in London to create reconfigurable steel shelves, display cabinets and rails this article on Dezeen reports. The shop had a tight budget, which lead their designers to opt for an innovative approach. They used Unistrut to create rails for clothing, shelving to support jewellery display cases and a variety of other structures.
This Redditor shared a photograph of a table and benches he created out of Unistrut and wood. With the use of Unistrut, the beautiful table and benches boast an industrial-like style that perfectly balances the aged look of the wood used.
Car roof racks are ideal to carry bulky equipment and load up vehicles with the gear you need for your day-to-day or casual trips. All Things Overlanding shared one of their favourite DIY projects ever, which was a roof rack with Unistrut.
Members of the Garage Journal, an online discussion forum, created a thread to share their Unistrut designs – a great read for those looking for ideas. Some of their Unistrut projects include easy projects, such as shelving and storage sections. They range to more difficult projects, such as a track system for sliding cabinets and an adjustable rotisserie frame for a grill.
