How To Keep Your Luggage Safe When You Go Abroad

*This is a collaborative post on how to keep your luggage safe but all thoughts and opinions are my own

I’ve been incredibly lucky to not lose my luggage when I’ve been away but the fear is very real.

When I went to Aruba on a press trip the person I went with had her luggage arrive on the island over a day after we touched down which wasn’t fun. And when my parents came back from Edinburgh earlier this year their suitcase didn’t make it back to London Luton and it took about 4 days to location and get back to them.

Every time I’m waiting at baggage claim I get a pang of worry, and I don’t know what I’d do if mine never turned up.

Keep your luggage safe with a tracking device

I’ve seen a lot of things about people using GPS trackers in their luggage for peace of mind. While most pieces of lost luggage turn up in a week it’s the unknown waiting that would worry me the most.

If you place a GPS tracker in your luggage you should be able to track it’s location on the occasion it’s misplaced. So you should be able to tell if it’s still in your original destination, or whether it’s made it home. This is especially useful if you’ve done a connecting flight as you can see where your bag made it to.

GPS trackers use network coverage to generate the connection and show the tracking. Although many use 2G which will soon no longer be available. The tracker I am going to talk about below is 4G which is great.

PAJ tracker

The ALLROUND Finder 4G from Paj GPS

I’ve recently worked with Paj GPS and I have the ALLROUND Finder 4G* (69.99 Euros). The device itself is quite small so you can easily put it in your suitcase when you head away.

The ALLROUND Finder tracks in real-time and it’s location will be updated every 30 seconds, or even sooner if it’s changing direction. It’s totally accessible via an app which is really user friendly and easy to use.

This device has up to 40 days of battery life when in standby mode. Even with 1 hour of active tracking a day it will still last for 20 days which is great for multi stop travelling. The device has an intelligent energy-saving mode so when the device isn’t moving it shifts into standby mode so it lasts for longer.

The Finder is great for anti-theft protection so you can set a ‘safe area’ around your tracker. If your tracker enters or leaves this area then you can get a notification. For example if you’re worried about your car, you can put a tracker in there and it will show you if your car moves out of where it is parked.

Other benefits of the ALLROUND Finder 4G:

Have you ever used a tracker to keep your luggage safe?

My wedding dress was lost in luggage. Now I do my best to carry on only if I can.
