Reasons Why You May Need A Storage Unit

*This is a collaborative post on why you may need a storage unit

A storage unit can be a massive help for a lot of different reasons that I’ll explore within this post.

Use a storage unit for business equipment

Business storage is probably not the first thing you think of when you think of a storage unit. But if you find a unit provider such as Now Storage Reading who offer business self-storage you could use it to store business-related equipment. And there are so many uses for it.

It might be that you have an e-commerce store but don’t have the space for larger quantities of products in your home, so a storage unit can be a good place to store excess. Perhaps you’re in the process of moving or finding business premises and need somewhere to store things during the transition.

Whatever your business needs a unit can help.

If you’re moving house/ in transition

This is possibly the most common use for a storage unit when moving home. You might have moved out of one place and be renting/ living with family until you move into your new place. Or you may be wanting to make the move as easy as possible and store away a bunch of products until you’re moved and settled.

This is exactly what we did when we rented a storage unit. I sold my flat in February 2019 and me and Luke moved into our parents to save some extra money and make us chain free when buying. We moved most of our furniture and a lot of household things we didn’t need into storage for about 17 months until we were ready to move them into our new home.

Use a storage unit if you’re downsizing

If you’re downsizing then chances are the items from your current home won’t fit in the new one. But there might be sentimental items you aren’t ready to get rid of. Or you may simply not have enough time to sort through it all.

It can help with either permanent storage of items you just want to keep. Or temporary storage for until you’ve sorted through it all.

Moving home can be stressful enough without having to worry about downsizing all your items too. I know a lot of people who have done this and eventually sold/ gotten rid of the items in storage over time.

If you’re renovating your home

Renovations can be noisy and disruptive. So you may find it easier to move items from your home that you temporarily don’t need into storage to give you the space to renovate. It’s not just the space but a storage unit will protect your items and mean they won’t get covered in dust or potentially damaged during the work.

We renovated our home when we first bought it so our items were already in storage. And they remained there until the renovations were completed and the place was clean.

Have you ever used a storage unit facility?

I think my biggest reason is that I just have too much stuff! I really need to downsize. In the meantime, I’m actually renting a unit right now. LOL

I think we could do with one, and I am sure I could fill it up easily. They are great for storing items you can not store at home

I am actually considering renting a storage unit. My current house storage is too small for our stuff….

I have debates with myself about this often. We went from 2 kids to 4 kids and then back to 2 when the older ones moved out – so we had lots of stuff then had to get rid of a lot – I debated putting it into storage because some of it was handy stuff – like extra beds, clothes etc but we ended up donating it.

It’s trying to work out with the cost of a storage unit if it’s worth it depending on how long it would be stored for x

My sister is thinking about selling sweets and is looking for a storage unit at the moment as her house isn’t big enough

We were joking about using a storage unit as our loft is so full of kids toys and we need to make access for our new solar panels!

I would actually love additional storage or a storage container so declutter my home (which we have completely outgrown!). This has reminded me to actually looking into this

Previously, we have considered a storage unit to store some of my items that just do not fit in our current house but are meaningful to me. Storage units can be so useful.

We’ve used a storage unit to store items of furniture such as sofas and beds that we have had to keep somewhere when moving. That’s one of the problems with renting, sometimes the landlords decide to sell up and you’re left with all this stuff and no where to keep it at your next place!

It’s one thing finding somewhere to live/ sleep but another to find somewhere to put all of your stuff x

We have a storage unit for work and it is one of the best things we ever used whilst we had some renovations works going on x

I wished we had used one when we moved house the last time. We ended up having to get rid of lots of stuff that we didn’t want to as it was all last minute . They are such a. Great idea!
