#AD- I was invited on a package holiday to Crete with Jet2Holidays but was under no obligation to do this post
We used to do package holidays a lot as a family when I was younger. There wasn’t as much choice then as you couldn’t just go online and browse hotels and flights in the way you can now. So my parents would go into a travel agents and book our summer holidays that way.
I did a few package holidays aka 18-30’s holidays when I was first old enough. But in the past decade I’ve not really done a package holiday, preferring to do it all myself. But last month me and Luke were invited to go to Crete for a few days with Jet2Holidays and it reminded me how great they are.
We have said that we want to try and make a sunshine all inclusive package holiday a priority for us. We enjoyed the relaxing nature of it so much and know it’s something we both need. If you’ve been like me and not done a package holiday since you were a kid here’s why that needs to change now.
It can be easy enough to hop online and book a flight and a place to stay, but transfers are something that are easily forgotten. If you’re doing a city break then public transport might be readily available. But it doesn’t mean it’s cheap or easy to understand. I’ve been to cities before where the trains are confusing, or I’ve bought a ticket and gotten on the wrong train. And that’s after plenty of pre-planning as I hate being unprepared.
If you’re heading to a resort, or somewhere outside of a main city transport can be tough. When we were in Crete we’d have had to get a taxi if we didn’t have a package holiday. And at gone midnight after a delayed flight that wouldn’t have been fun.
With a package holiday transfers are generally included within the price of your holiday.
As long as you choose the right provider a package holiday will give you a level of cover that you don’t get when you buy things separately.
For example if you book a package and your flight is cancelled, the tour provider will have to find you an alternative, even if it’s a lot more expensive. Whereas if you buy your flight in isolation you won’t have this peace of mind.
With most providers you’ll have access to a UK based customer service line in case you need it. And there may even be reps available at your resort at particular times if you need them.
The law also states that if you have a package holiday it must be protected. Most providers will give ATOL protection (Air Travel Organiser’s Licence). This is a UK financial protection scheme which protects most package holidays sold by travel companies. This basically covers you if the business ceases trading and gives you added security.
Every package holiday company will be different, but thinking about Jet2Holidays you get a lot of extras included such as:

I usually always book a package because I feel
You get much more for your money and it often saves the hassle of sorting out the smaller things like transfers and meal options x
Until I went on one I don’t think I appreciated that as much x
The past couple of holidays we have had have not been package holidays, but I do feel more protected with a package holiday
Because I hadn’t been on one for so long I didn’t even really consider it, but I would 100% do one again x
I have been on my first packaged holiday this year, with Jet2. I really liked that it is a worry free holiday, and that everything was taken care of. Plus the staff was so friendly, even if the plane landed at 2am. They greeted us with a smile, telling us which bus goes to our resort, and made us feel so welcomed.
Same with us, and we landed about midnight. If anything the rep was too friendly and all I wanted to do was sleep hah x
Package holidays can definitely make for a more stress-free holiday. I love booking each part of the trip myself (especially as I love eating in local restaurants rather than on the resort) but I can see how an all-inclusive package could help to simplify things.
100%, I think I’d be happy doing half board and getting breakfast and lunch so I could explore outside for dinner x
Totally agree with you here and it makes life so much easier and safer with having transfers included. Especially if something does go wrong everything is in one place so to speak x
Yeah, there’s always a worry. My friend’s flight got cancelled, and her package provider sorted out transfers to another airport and flight for her. If she’d booked separately she’d have gotten a cheap refund but had to spend hundreds on another flight x
I have to admit package holidays make having a family break away so much easier. Jet2 is one of the companies we are maybe looking to book with next year. We’ve not managed to find a break with availability just yet as the whole family goes.
I totally agree about it being easier. Having to think about everything aspect on it’s own is time consuming x
We did package holidays a lot when I was a kid. Though Iām considering booking a family vacation with Jet2. I know my kids would love it.
I don’t think we’ve ever been on a package holiday, definitely sounds like an easy option though.
I bet it was lovely to get away to Crete – I have to admit there is something to love about package holidays, the fact it is all being dealt with in one place and you don’t have to worry about different parts from different places is a huge when you worry a lot like me.
Yeah taking away the stress from you to remember everything x
I used to go on regular package holidays, but that came to a halt with Covid. I am still limiting myself to UK holidays at the moment, but if I decide to resume going overseas again, I will definitely start with a package holiday.
