The Month I Became A Mrs – May 2023 Overview

Oh wow, what a month May 2023 was. Three bank holidays, a week in Scotland and a wedding, it was a busy one.

The bank holidays did feel a bit overkill in the end, but that may have been because I also had a week off including another Monday. So during the month, I worked one out of five Mondays, win-win!

But it was a super special month for me because after years of planning me and Luke got married.

It’s official I’m now a Mrs

I’m still a bit overwhelmed that we’re now married, and at the point of writing this, we’ve been married for three weeks. We got engaged in January 2020, so the countdown to May 2023 was a long time coming. But it was the most perfect day we could have asked for.

In the week before the wedding, we didn’t have as much to do as I thought we would. Me and Luke went to pick up the cake and the various sweet treats in the two days before the wedding, then it was time for all my treatments. In the few days before the wedding I had some waxing done, some threading done, a manicure and a pedicure.

The night before the wedding we dropped our decor and bits at the venue and I stayed overnight. As quite a lot of family were staying over the night before too we booked out a room at a local pub and had a lovely dinner.

On the morning of the actual wedding, things felt way too chilled and I kept thinking I should be doing something. As our ceremony wasn’t until 4.30 pm I didn’t have to start getting ready until midday. Once I started the day went so quickly, but it was the best day either of us could have imagined.

We’re not doing our proper honeymoon until next year, but we wanted a break together post-wedding so we headed up to Scotland.

We spent a few days in Edinburgh and then a few days in Aberdeen and it was just the break we needed. We’d both been to Edinburgh a few times so had done most of the touristy bits so it was mainly a few days of eating, drinking and book shopping. We also recreated our engagement photo from the top of the Museum of Scotland.

Our few days in Aberdeen were a bit more hectic as we both had tattoo appointments booked for the day we arrived. Then on our second day, we did a hike in the morning followed by a walk around a local castle.

The week was just what we had wanted and it was a great finale to the wedding itself.

The month was full of live music

It feels so long ago now but on the first bank holiday Monday, it was time for my mum’s Christmas present trip to see Duran Duran. The band are her absolute favs and I’m so glad I got to experience it with her. Not only were the band great, but I loved seeing her sing and smile along.

A few days before the wedding I finally got to see Avril Lavigne. She’s been on my bucket list to see for years and the show did not disappoint. It was a perfect blend of older songs with some newer ones thrown in.

Then the month ended with my first festival of the summer, Slamdunk. This year there were some issues leading to us queuing in Hatfield for over four hours just to park. But once we got inside I had a lovely day in the sunshine listening to some great music.

Everything else I got up to in May 2023

I managed to squeeze in two cinema trips this month. At the very start of May 2023, it was time for Guardians of the Galaxy volume three which I loved. It was quite an emotional one, but I loved having more of Rocket’s story.

Then near the end of the month, I saw the live-action Little Mermaid which I loved. The whole movie was done so well with amazing visuals and great casting, Halle’s voice was just incredible, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula was spot on,

During May 2023 I even managed to squeeze in a few meals out with some friends, and family. A great month.
