A Magical Hen Stay, Live Music & Home Projects – February 2023 Overview

Book and Loki

January was the longest month, but then February 2023 disappeared suddenly. The fact that we’re in March means our wedding is in two months, which is crazy.

March is a pretty busy month for us as it’s both Luke and my mum’s birthdays, then we also have Mother’s Day. But looking back on February, it was a really good month, a nice mixture of doing things and seeing people but also relaxing.

All the movies and watching

I had three movie trips in February, which was pretty good, considering not too much is out.

Me and Luke headed to see Puss in Boots at the start of the month, which was funny. I love a good animated movie, and this didn’t disappoint. One that didn’t live up to expectations, though, was Magic Mike. My friend and I headed to see this, which was pretty cringey throughout. This is the reason I love having a Cineworld card because I don’t feel too bad when I see disappointing movies because I didn’t directly pay for it.

Then near the end of February 2023 me, and Luke headed to see Ant Man. I had heard mixed things about it, but we really enjoyed it. Paul Rudd is always amazing, but I really loved both The Wasp and his daughter in the movie.

Live music in February 2023

I don’t go to anywhere near as many gigs as I used to, partially because I feel like I’ve seen a lot of bands that I want to, but also because it’s expensive. But I did have two live shows in February.

In the middle of the month me, and Luke headed to see Wierd Al Yankovich, which was super fun. I didn’t know what to expect before going but spent the whole time smiling. He’s one of those acts I never thought I’d get to see live, but I’m glad I have now.

Then a few days later, I headed to see Punk Rock Factory play. They’re a band who play punk rock covers of Disney songs, movie and TV songs, musical tracks and anything else you wouldn’t expect from the genre. So I spent the evening singing to Moana and the Spongebob theme and had a great time.

Hen group

The biggest thing of the month; my hen

The main event in February was my overnight hen stay. I am one of those brides who organised the hen myself, and it felt like we’d had it in the diary for a long time. So the fact that it’s happened now makes the wedding feel even closer.

14 of us headed to Bicester Golf and Spa for two days of spa pampering full of hot tubs, jacquizzas, saunas and treatments. We had a lovely dinner and many bottles of prosecco on the evening we arrived. And a few of my amazing friends organised some games which were really fun if not a little embarrassing for the family there.

Then after a reserved midnight bedtime we had a relaxing second day in the spa, which ended in afternoon tea. I had such an amazing time, and it was so nice to have all the ladies I love in one place.

More wedding prep in February 2023

Luke had his stag weekend the same as my hen, but he was away for three nights play D&D and board games. Totally up his street!

Over the rest of February 2023 we’ve been speaking to all of our suppliers and finalisng plans for the big day. I’ve got a few DIY projects in varying stages of completion. A few smaller bits have been done, but there’s still quite a bit to do. But we’re hoping to have them done in March so we can relax closer to the time.

Luke and his went to get measured and choose suits, so that was one big thing ticked off the list. He came back really happy with what he picked, and he even picked up his shoes. And the groomsmen suits we ordered turned up, so at least everyone has clothes now.

Thor

Everything else

There’s still a lot of little odds and jobs around the house that we’re trying to get done, so Luke has been tackling a few of them.

The biggest home bit to get ticked off in February 2023 was a brand new back door and window that we had fitted right near the end of the month. We want to get all of our windows sorted out, but we can’t afford to do it all at once. But the first one has been done, and we finally have a door that opens out and not in.

My dad came around in February to finish our front garden, and it looks so good. The walk to our front door looks neater, and we have some lovely new slabs. We also have pots of flowers to make it look nice. I need to finish a little bit of painting, but that’s it. Considering how bad it looked a year ago, I can’t believe the change.

Luke spent an entire day clearing out the garage, and we filled up another hippo skip bag of rubbish. Hopefully, we can return to our garage renovation and take the next steps.

How was your February 2023?

Sounds like a great month for you and I love the Puss in Boots movie! I do still need to see Ant Man but not loving those movies much anymore as they feel forced. Movies lately just are not as good to me… but Puss in Boots was awesome!
