January 2024 Updates and Favourites

Sandals Ochi in Jamaica

When I posted my end of 2023 wrap up I mentioned I wanted to try something new with my monthly posts and that’s where this post comes in. I’ve labelled my January 2024 post updates and favourites as I can’t think of a better title yet. But I wanted to talk about not just the things I did, but things I read and watched, products I loved etc.

So let’s see how this month’s wrap up goes.

Things I got up to in January 2024

My month pretty much consisted of two things, the Bring Me The Horizon tour, and the start of my honeymoon.

I can’t believe it’s been a month since the Bring Me tour, it’s gone so quickly. I did a whole post about reflecting on the four shows I went to so I won’t talk about it too much. But over the middle of the month I headed to Bournemouth, Birmingham, Manchester and London to see my favourite band and I had so much fun. They’ve been my favourite band for over 15 years now, and my live count has hit 65 times now.

Then on 24th January me and Luke headed to Jamaica on our honeymoon. I will do a separate post on the trip, but we had an incredible time. We were away for two weeks and during that time we just relaxed in the sunshine, eating and drinking everything in site, and I got through about 14 books. It’s been tough being back this week but we’re slowly getting back into reality.

Things I read and watched

It only took until January 2024 for Luke to get me to watch Firefly, and I loved it. I love Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk anyway so it was onto a winner from the get go. The show is over 20 years old now so some of the graphics are a bit old, but the characters and the story was great.

After we finished Firefly we were on a Nathan Fillion kick so we got back into Castle. When we stopped last year I think we were part through season six so we’ve still got a few seasons to get through. I can’t wait to see where the whole show ends and how it wraps up.

I have only watched half a season but I’ve been loving the new Percy Jackson show on Disney Plus. It made me go out and buy the series of books to read (not that I needed an excuse).

I read a fair bit in January but my top books were:

Pen pot

Some of my favourite things

I have been a Goodreads Stan for a while now, but I really got into using Storygraph in January and I’ve loved using them in tandem. I love the stats you can get with Storygraph breaking down the genre, moods and pacing of books. And I love how you can give half star ratings as it’s one of my biggest bugbears with Goodreads.

It’s going to sound really sad that one of my favourite things from January 2024 was a pen pot, but it’s true. I’ve gotten into book journaling so have a large collection of highlighters, pens etc and they use to be tucked away in a big pen case. Then it would always be quite a pain to pull everything out. But now I have absolutely everything I need easily accessible and it spins which makes everything better right?!

How was your January 2024, and what was your favourite thing from it?

That pen pot would have definitely been one of my favourite things too. I have a caddy for my pens but this round one is so much nicer.

OMG, you’ve seen the band 65 times that’s amazing. I don’t like any band enough to see them that often. Hope you get to see them again soon.

Haha, people are always shocked, but then I tell them I saw them for the first time almost 18 years ago so it doesn’t feel quite as much then haha x

I like Goodreads but it’s been awhile since I’ve visited the site. I agree with you that it’s cool the new site you found let’s you give a half star in the ratings.

Jamaica sounds like a wonderful place to visit! Looking forward to reading about your time there.
