This year is going by so quickly, we’re already almost halfway through the year. At the start of 2024 I put together our goals for the year including home, finance etc. And home goals are one of my top focus’ at the moment.
The biggest thing we completed in the first few months of the year was the first half of our garage renovation which was Luke’s office. The room looks so good and I’m so happy that he has his own space. But there are still plenty of things I want to get done around the house.
Life is moving so fast so I don’t want to put too much pressure on the rest of 2024. But here are three of the main things we want to complete this year.
To finish off our garage renovation we need to build our utility room. This is a space I have been dreaming of for ages, and it will make doing the washing etc so much better. Plus it will free up a lot of space for us in the kitchen as I can move cleaning products, food overstock and items we don’t use as often in there.
I’ve already mapped out what I want to put in all the cupboards and drawers. The idea of it fills me with so much joy.
Other than the floor being built nothing has started on this so there’s quite a way to go. We go on holiday in mid September and I’m hoping this is something we can tackle before then.
We wanted to do this before last winter but time just disappeared, but it’s a top priority this year.
We have a gas fire and it has never been used, mainly because it’s very open and we don’t want the cats to get too close/ touch the coals. Not only will an electric fireplace look nicer but it will be more practical and safe.
As we have solar we’re trying to move away from using as much gas. So the plan is to use the electric fireplace instead of radiators downstairs.
I have a list of small snagging items around the house and I’m starting to make a dent on it. I’m about halfway through my paint touch ups which should be finished in the next few weeks. And then I need to move onto some of the slightly bigger tasks.
I’m hoping most of these smaller snagging items I can tackle on my own.
I’d love to do a makeover on our stairs soon. There’s been a spindle missing ever since we moved in, and they’re currently painted white gloss which is starting to chip quite a lot. I’d love to replace the stair post along with the spindles and handrail. Going for a wood finish will tie in so much better with our house, and it will look much smarter.
If we can save the money I am really hoping that we can get the upstairs back windows in our house replaced. Our en-suite one is actually a normal window that we’ve put film over as the room used to be a bedroom and the previous tenants never updated the window. And we have an issue with our third bedroom window. This isn’t a top priority for us but if we can save the money then it’s 100% on the list to be done this year.
home goad for me, finish the to do list including restoring the deck…I have a ton to do lol…A ton…
I think an electic fireplace and a new laundry room are great ideas. I hope you’ll post some photos when they’re finished.
I can not wait for both of those things to be done x
I like these Home goals! We have a list for next year as well. Hopefully we will manage to get a few things done
It’s so nice to have those goals! I’ve been wanting to do quite a few things around the house now that the weather is nice.
Oh I hear you on this there is so much home stuff we need to do but we need to sit down calculate and priortise what is important xx
Yes it’s calculating the money and prioritising for time. If we had both more time and money I’d do it all haha x
Home goals for me is to get my kitchen updated, to be honest I have a lot of home goals and I hope to at least finish half before the year is up.
Good luck with completing some of them x
I like this post. It has inspired to make a list of my own and try out tackling them over the summer.
We are shifting to our home soon these are some helpful ideas which I can definitely for my home. Electric fireplace sounds great for winters.
I really want to have an electric fire place – they look so sleek and modern. It sounds like your reno is going really well.
They do look so nice, I really hope we manage to get that done this year x
Your ideas have inspired me to tackle projects in my home like creating a cozy reading nock and organizing play space.
An electric fire place is a great idea to create a cozy and safe space for yourself and your cats. All the best for your home goals for the second half of 2024.
Thanks, I really hope the electric fireplace happens this year. I can’t wait to see the cats lounging there x
