I’m not a New years resolution kinda girl. If I want to start/ stop something or improve I just start whenever. But I am a goals kinda girl. Every year I set goals that I want to achieve over the year, and now’s a chance to reflect on my 2024 goals and see how I got on.
Last year I split my goals into home, finances and other. And I tried to be realistic esp when it came to home goals. There’s always been a project on the go since we got the keys in April 2020, so I didn’t want to put too much pressure on (mainly) Luke.
The biggest home goal for the year was finishing our garage renovation. Luke’s office was finished around February time and I’m so happy he has his own space. He can play computer games, paint his models and just be surrounded by the stuff he loves. I’m going to class our utility project as done as well as there are just a few finishing touches to complete. And ultimately 90% of the work has been done and it’s a fully functioning room. I couldn’t be happier with how it looks and the space we now have to grow.
The other larger home project that we wanted to complete was switching our fireplace to an electric one. This project didn’t get completed, although we have bought the fireplace (as it was on sale over Black Friday). This is a project I’m hoping Luke and his dad can get to over January/ February, but we’ll see what happens.
I had hoped to get some more of the smaller home snagging items done and this was a bit of a mixed bag. I got some of the paint touch ups done which is great, but there’s still a bunch of things to do on the list. This is something I’m hoping to finish over 2025.
We had quite a few money related goals for 2024, and for the most part we did pretty well. But there are some things that will be rolling over to 2025.
Our first one was to fully fund our cruise fund ahead of going in September. I didn’t want to put anything on the credit card, and we managed to achieve this. This was our last planned bigger trip and it was incredible.
Then we wanted to have all of our utility renovations paid off which we have so far. We will need to spend a little more for some of the finishing touches we need to do, but I’m hoping this can come from savings.
I wanted to increase our emergency fund by £1,500 which we didn’t quite meet due to various things that popped up over the year. We managed about half of this, which is still a positive.
We wanted to pay down our solar loan by at least £4,000 and we managed to do exactly that. We now have less than £4,000 left to pay to clear it completely which I’m so happy about.
Investment wise we wanted to focus on our LISA accounts which wasn’t very successful. We did open a LISA for Luke which is great but we wanted to add £800 to each which we didn’t hit. Luke’s is empty at the moment, and mine had about £300 added to it.
2024 has felt like quite an expensive year, but once we’ve ticked off a final few home projects I hope it’s something we can prioritise.
Our original plan was to sell Luke’s work van and get him a different vehicle, but that plan changed. Instead we invested some money into the van he had to make it more fit for purpose and nicer for Luke to use. And we did that in the first half of the year.
My eating habits was something I wanted to keep up with after a really positive end to 2023. I did keep it up for a while but then life got in the way and it wasn’t a priority. One day I’ll start to feel better about my body.
Overall even though we didn’t tick everything off I’m happy with what we did achieve. Coming soon will be my goals for 2025 list.
Sounds like you did well with your goals overall. I love that you always have a plan in place for taking forward steps.
I feel like you might not have totally hit the mark on all of your goals, but you crushed it overall. You certainly hit more of yours than I did this year! LOL
I think you did a great job on your goals for the past year. Here’s hoping that we all achieve our goals this 2025! Happy New Year!
Thanks x
It is so good to write down all your goals and have them all set up for the year ahead. I wish you the best of luck achieving them.
It sounds like 2024 went really well for you both on the home front and financial side. Lets hope 2025 is another good year for you
Thanks, fingers crossed x
Well, here is wishing you a year filled with success in reaching your goals in 2025.
I love that most of your goals were completed, very impressive!! I hope you have a great year and that you complete all of your goals smoothly as well.
I have so many house projects I would like to get done. It is satisfying to be able to cross those things off the list!
It is nice to keep track of goals and see how you did. Sounds like you fared well on what you wanted to accomplish.
Achieving our goals for the year surely gives us a true sense of happiness. Financial goals are critical for every year in my opinion.
I’ve set myself quite a few goals this year however I’m most looking forward to reading more. My target is 30 books. Wish me luck
I’m really glad to hear that you had a good 2024. Achieving one’s goals sets the pace for the next year. I feel financial and health goals are especially important. All the best for 2025.
