And just like that another year has disappeared. For me, 2024 has been a pretty great year. And December 2024 was equally as great.
The month and the festive time did go way too quickly, although I find it does every year. Each year I feel like I try and cram as much in but don’t get to do everything. I’d have liked to hit up some Christmas markets this year, and go and see more of the lights in London. But there’s always next year.
Most of the month was just the lead up to Christmas. I had a lot of lovely pre-Christmas catch ups with friends, from my group of school friends to going with my mum to meet her school friends. I had lots of fun, lots of good food and it was a lovely lead up to the big day.
About 10 days before Christmas we had our annual pet Christmas where my family came round to give our cats presents (yes it is normal!) But it’s also my excuse to buy all the M&S and other branded party food for everyone.
Me and Luke also did our own pre-Christmas meal out and went to The Grove. Considering I lived in Watford for 30 years I can’t believe I’ve only just been. But we went to The Glasshouse which is their gourmet buffet and it was incredible. It was really reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food available. Definitely somewhere I’d love to go to again.
Near the start of the month me and Luke headed into London to see Dr Strangelove at the theatre. I had no idea what to expect other than the fact that Steve Coogan was in it, but the show was fab. It was serious at points, but there was a lot of humour in it. And Steve played about four different characters so seamlessly.
One of the live shows I was most looking forward to- Falling in Reverse- was cancelled which I was gutted about. But I did have two more shows in the lead up to Christmas. I saw Dayseeker with a few friends at the Kentish Town Forum which was really good. Then my final show of 2024 was The Home Team at the Underworld which was so much fun.
I binge watched the newest season of Only Murders in the Building in December 2024 and it was great. Other than that I rewatched a few Christmas movies but haven’t watched that much telly over the month.
Just after Christmas me and Luke did a breakfast and bookshop date. After we had some food we headed to a bookshop and bought each other a book to read. Luke bought me The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie which I had no idea existed, although it was released in 1998 which may be why. It was a fun day of reading, but sadly the book wasn’t the best.
I had two five star books in December 2024 which were:
Everything about the festive season made me happy over the month. From the special foods and the decorations to spending time with those I love. Although I am secretly excited to take down the decorations and give the house a little new year clean ready for the year ahead.
This might seem like a strange thing to make me happy, but I bought a dandruff brush and it’s amazing. It’s a comb with holes at the end to pick up any dirt in your hair, then once you’re done you press a button to get it all out of the brush. I get a lot of build up on my scalp and this has really made a difference.
It sounds like you had a great December and Christmas. I saw Steve Coogan being interviewed and we said it sounds good. Glad to hear you loved it so will look at going. I have still not seen Only Murders in the building, I do keep looking at it then realising I have other series to finish or catch up with first.
It gets a bit overwhelming with TV shows doesn’t it?! There’s so much to watch x
I can’t believe December is over already, such a beautiful month and I had a great one.
I can’t believe another year has come and gone. The entire year seemed to go by so fast, but December was a whirlwind.
You’re so right, December went way too quickly x
Always is a pleasure to read your posts, Rhian. What a great beginning of the new year ahead of you! Happy and joyous times for you and your loved ones!
It’s interesting how you wrapped up the year! Your reflections make it feel like a rewarding journey. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Oh my god, I love the idea of pet Christmas! What a fun end to the year.
Time flies really so fast. I still can’t believe it’s 2025 now. But let’s welcome it with a positivity!
Your meal at the Grove must have been lovely. My cousin got married there and it is such a lovely setting. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Wow I bet the wedding there must have been incredible, it’s such a beautiful place x
Everything about the Christmas season makes me happy, too, always. That’s why it’s my favorite time of the year.
December, best month of the year that came by so fast. It’s my most look forward to month/season of all. Love all the holiday cheers and gatherings.
Sounds like you have had a busy one and been doing very similar things to us party snacks, theatre and generally enjoying the festive season. Happy New Year to you and yours by the way xx
It sounds like you had a wonderful lead-up to Christmas, full of fun gatherings and delicious food! The annual pet Christmas celebration is such a charming tradition, and it’s great that you got to enjoy quality time with family and friends.
That is so fun that you have a Christmas celebration for your cats. How wonderful! I should do the same for mine. Sounds like a lovely holiday season.
It’s just a nice excuse to do more Christmassy stuff haha x
A year-end reflection like this is a great way to wrap up everything accomplished. It’s interesting to see what stood out ♥
Looks like you had a great December. Annual pet Christmas celebration must be amazing. Happy New a year to you and your family. I can’t believe we are in mid January already.
I can’t believe how Christmas has come and gone so quickly! What a lovely idea to get your family to buy gifts for your pets, more people should do this
It really did go so quickly didn’t it x
Sounds like you had an amazing December and Christmas. The books sound like interesting reads.
We absolutely love Only Murders In the Building. Probably one of our favourite shows. Cannot wait for the next season
It’s so good to know that you read so much in December. And, I love your cat’s pic. She looks like a boss of the house.
