August 2025 is already over and we’re in the ‘ber’ months of the year which means it’s basically Autumn. Time has always gone fast, but even more so since I’ve become a mum.
As I write this post Scarlett is 11 weeks old which is madness. I still feel like we’re in the newborn bubble, but I also feel like we’ve found our groove (for the moment). Watching our daughter grow and change day by day is such a privilege, and I’ve loved every minute of it.
Over the month we’ve taken Scarlett out and about to visit family and friends, and get her used to the world. In the middle of the month we had a little walk with a friend and her daughter, and a trip to the baby weigh and play with someone from our NCT group. For me getting out of the house and walking has been the biggest thing and I feel so much better for it.
When me and Luke were discussing having kids the biggest thing we said was that we still wanted to be us and not just mum and dad. So while I’ve not been out and about as much as normal I’ve still done some things just for me.
I had a nice meal out catching up with a friend, and decided to go back to being a red head which is super fan. Near the end of the month I had an evening in London to myself again mainly shopping, eating good food and I managed to sneak in a theatre trip to see Clueless which was really good.
Over bank holiday weekend I did my first live music show postpartum and I went in at the deep end by going to Reading Festival. Not a lot would bring me back to that festival but Bring Me The Horizon were headlining so I had no choice. I had such a fab day and everything I saw was so good. Live music is a big part of my life so it was nice to get back to seeing some.
I managed to head to the cinema twice in August 2025. Once right at the start of the month with Luke to see Superman. We both really enjoyed the movie and I can’t wait to see where this iteration of Superman goes. Then in the middle of the month I went to see Freakier Friday with a friend and that was so much fun. It felt like a dose of nostalgia and I loved seeing the next generation through the movie.
TV wise I watched the latest season of Love is Blind UK which I loved. I didn’t initially think Kieran and Megan were going to last but I ended up loving them so much as a couple. Me and Luke have finally started watching the latest season of Andor which I’m really enjoying.
I’ve read some really fab books this month, and my three favourites were:
Luke bought me a new e-reader just before Scarlett was born in June and I absolutely love it. Previously I said I’d never move from physical books but I am a convert. It’s just so much easier with a baby to have that and be able to pick it up and put it down whenever I want. Plus I went all out and got the stand and the clicker. This way I can still read when I am feeding her, or she’s in my arms falling asleep. I couldn’t do that with a physical book.
Depending on when Scarlett is sleeping/ what’s going on, sometimes I forget to have breakfast, or I just don’t have the hands to eat. Toast’ems* have saved me a little over the past month as you can eat them cold, or for a treat heat them up. I had the frosted cookies and creme, frosted chocolate fudge, and frosted s’mores and they’re all super tasty. Yes they’re not the healthiest thing to have, but as a treat they’ve been fab at giving me a boost of energy. I don’t think I could pick a favourite, but the frosted s’mores has been great as a sweet treat with toasted marshmellow sandwiched between two graham cracker layers and coated in chocolate. Yummy!
I’m from the generation of the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve. Great movie!! I was rather surprised with the remake and how it stuck to the story line. And give me chocolate pop ups any day.
We really enjoyed the new Superman movie. So many people out there have been complaining about it, and I can tell they’re not my age. LOL. I really felt an OG vibe from Gunn’s approach.
I think it’s when people compare things too much to other versions, but it’s a new version x
I am SO loving this series! I’ve always thought that parents should keep doing what makes them happy. They have a better mindset and they can share their loves with their kids as they grow!
It is good that you are still prioritisng yourselves as people. It’s so important for mental health – and your baby looks so cute.
Thanks, it was one of our most important agreements when we decided to become parents x
The toast’em popups, wow…I had no idea they come in all these flavors! Frosted cookies and cream…I wannnnt….It’s a delicious midday snack.
Oh my ! How did I miss you had a baby! So cute! Congratulations lovely , always take a moment for yourself, especially in these early stages
Thank you x
Looks like you had a pretty good August. I totally agree that watching our kids grow is such a privilege.
