The Start Of Autumn – September 2019 Overview

I officially think now that it’s October that it means Autumn has started and I can mention Christmas without people getting too mad. I know we still have Halloween to contend with first, but I’ve already started to see festive things in the shops and it fills me with joy. This has also reminded me that I need to pop into Lush and see what their Halloween collection is like this year.

City break away

The main thing that happened to me in September was my trip to Oslo near the start of the month. We did have a slight panic thinking the trip wouldn’t happen when British Airways cancelled our flight home. But they ended up uncancelling it which was lovely of them. Me and my friend had such a good time in the city exploring the beautiful surroundings. And we didn’t even find it too expensive. Although to find out more here’s what I got up to.

Thankfully I had a nice sneaky extra day off work after coming back and it meant I could catch up and do all the boring adult things like unpacking and washing. I’m starting to realise that these extra days after coming home from a trip are so needed.

Meals out

It’s been quite a heavy month for meals out. It started off with a trip to Las Iguanas just after the new branch opened in Watford. We were lucky enough to be invited to the launch and got to experience it on the house. The food was absolutely amazing and I’m already planning another trip back so I can sample more of their menu (and cocktails which are 2 for 1 all day every day!)

Then my parents actually went away on holiday leaving us in peace for 2 weeks so we took my nan and my auntie out near the start of the month which was nice. Then we went to a BBQ in the middle of the month over one of the gloriously warm weekends. It was the 40th-anniversary party of someone Luke works with and they did not skimp on food and drink.

Burger from Las iguanas

Then I had a meal out with some friends from work and we had a banquet meal at a local Indian which was so good. Although I left feeling so full. I had a brunch date with a new friend in the middle of the month which was great. I’m really trying to push myself to talk to people more and make as much of an effort as I can.

At the end of the month, it was my Nan’s 80th birthday so on the last weekend of the month we went out for a meal. There was 16 of us which was quite hectic, but then we went back to my parents for some drinks. And it was such a nice evening to spend with my family (and soon to be family).

Theatre trips and days in London

Somehow I managed to see three shows within the space of a week near the end of September. I hadn’t really been to the theatre in ages but somehow they all happened at once. On 18th I had my first experience of Flat Iron steak (which was fantastic) followed by a trip to see Waitress. The whole show was absolutely amazing and one of the best things I’d seen in ages.

Then a few days later I headed into London to see The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole. I didn’t really know what to expect with this show as it had been ages since I read the book, but it was such a great show. The kids in the show were so good and I was really impressed. While I was in London I tried a Beyond Bread cinnamon roll for the first time which was insane. And I discovered that Fresh Beauty have a store in Seven Dials so I may have treated myself to a few bits

Then it ended with a trip to see Come From Away with my friend. I was lucky enough to be gifted the tickets so I didn’t know too much about the show before I went. It’s based on the real-life stories surrounding 9/11 and it was a little emotional at points, but done so well.

I’m writing up a whole post about my theatre experiences so keep your eyes peeled.

Movies

Again another poor month when it came to trips to the cinema although I did see the National Theatre live showing of Fleabag. I was gutted that I didn’t manage to get tickets to see the show when they came out, but it was great to see it at the cinema.

Thankfully I’ve already got a few movies lined up for October so I know the month is going to be a bit more packed.

Blogging and writing

I started a dream collaboration at the start of the month with TK MAXX. They invited me along to visit their reasonably new Oxford Street branch where I was shown around the home department and left to my own devices with a gift card. The store itself is so much bigger than it looks and a great store. And I managed to pick up so many amazing goodies. Here’s a bit more about the store and my trip here.

I’ve started to make a real dent in my upcoming Christmas content. I’ve been playing around with photos and starting to construct guides which I’m happy about as I don’t want things to be too last minute.

In September my first article for The Metro went live as part of their ‘My Label and Me’ series. It was a kind of tough post to write but I’m so glad I did. I had so many wonderful messages from strangers who had read my post and felt the same which was both touching but emotional to know so many people feel lonely.

How was your September?

Happy 80th birthday to your nan. The TK Maxx event sounds like fun – I love to hate that shop……I always spend far too much money in there LOL

It sounds like you had a busy September. I popped into Lush the other day to check out their Halloween collection but ended up buying a load of stuff from their Christmas range (I can’t resist anything that smells like Snow Fairy!)

Looks you have certainly had a busy month there Rhian.

A holiday in Oslo, a trip to the theatre, eating out and more.

    That’s what I call productive!
