Easter Weekend And A Solo Break – April 2026 Overview

Another month down, and April 2026 was quite a busy one. It’s less than a month before Scarlett goes to nursery, and less than two months until I go back to work and it’s starting to feel real.

I’m trying to sort out all the things I need to do before that happens, and still have fun.

Things I got up to in April 2026

We found a new play place for the little ones in Leighton Buzzard and I’ve already been back twice. It was such a lovely space, and so much fun for them to run around. Scarlett had her Easter party at the class she goes to. She only has two more sessions as we’ve had to stop due to nursery which is wild!

During the month I met a friend for lunch and Scarlett got to go on her very first train. Other than her trying to dodge her nap she was really well behaved. We also had a fun girlie catch up with all our kids, and it’s so beautiful to see the group grow.

Without Scarlett I had a friend’s birthday meal and a few hours out in London to go to a book signing.

All in all a great month.

Easter and my solo break

Easter weekend feels like forever ago, but it was a nice mixture. We had a family day on the Friday and then Scarlett had a sleepover over the weekend so we could have some time just us. Then after a yummy Sunday roast I had a day out in London with my friend on the Monday.

The big one of the month (albeit only one day!) was my solo trip to New York. I headed overseas on 30th April and got back on 5th May so more May than April, but I had such a fab time (despite a tough travel home). I won’t talk much about it here as I’ll be doing some posts all about it.

Things I watched and read in April 2026

I had a quieter reading month than usual, but what I did read were great, especially:

• Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. I’m not usually a character driven story lover, but this was so melancholy and I loved it. I need to read Cleopatra and Frankenstein now!
• Endless War by Danielle L Jensen. This is book four in the bridge kingdom series and I loved the development between Keris and Zarrah.

I only made it to the cinema once to see The Drama. It was pretty good but nothing like I was expected really. On my flight I finally managed to watch the F1 movie which I really enjoyed. It was so interesting seeing drivers and team members popping up, and I think Brad Pitt did a good job.

I’m trying to catch up on some TV before I go back to work and I watched the reboots of both Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle. Scrubs was so much fun, it felt very similar to the original but with less sarcasm than the original (Kelso and Dr Cox were key to this). Malcolm in the Middle was fine and helped show where the kids ended up in life. Although it wasn’t anything special, so I’m glad it was just four episodes.

House updates

We’ve finally managed to get rid of all the rubbish in our garden with a skip that was full within a few hours of it arriving.

We had our garden quote through and picked out our patio tiles so work starts on that next week. I’m so excited that for the summer we’re going to have a nice useable garden and Scarlett can start spending some more time outside.
