Considerations And Recent Changes To My Diet

*This is a collaborative post on considerations and recent changes to my diet

I’ve now been taking Mounjaro for eight weeks and, so far, I’m really happy with how things are going. The weight loss has been slow and steady, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I wasn’t looking for an overnight transformation, I wanted to build healthier habits that I could realistically maintain long-term.

One of the biggest changes hasn’t actually been the number on the scales. It’s been the way I think about food.

Over the past couple of months, I’ve naturally found myself making different choices, eating more intentionally and paying much closer attention to what my body actually needs.

Here’s what’s changed.

I’m not thinking about snacks all day

If you’d asked me a few months ago what my biggest food challenge was, I’d probably have said snacking.

I wasn’t necessarily hungry all the time, but I was always thinking about what I could eat next, especially as I was at home a lot. Whether it was reaching for a biscuit in the morning, grabbing crisps in the afternoon or wandering into the kitchen simply because I was bored, food occupied far more headspace than I realised.

Since starting Mounjaro, that’s been one of the most noticeable differences.

I still enjoy snacks, but they don’t dominate my thoughts in the same way. I’m not constantly planning my next snack or feeling like I need something between meals just because it’s there.

Instead, I find myself eating when I’m genuinely hungry rather than out of habit, and that’s been incredibly freeing.

It’s probably the biggest mindset shift I’ve experienced so far.

Making every meal count

Because I’m eating less overall, it’s made me think much more carefully about what I’m actually putting on my plate.

Every meal is becoming more important, so I’m choosing the things I really want.

I’m not eating perfectly every day, and I don’t think anyone needs to, but I am making a conscious effort to include foods that will keep me feeling fuller for longer and support my overall health while I’m losing weight.

Why I’ve been prioritising protein

One thing I’ve become much more aware of is my protein intake.

When you’re eating fewer calories, it can sometimes be harder to consume enough protein naturally, especially if you’re reducing portion sizes.

Protein is important for a number of reasons while losing weight. It helps you feel fuller after meals, supports muscle maintenance as you lose body fat and plays an essential role in repairing and maintaining tissues throughout the body.

Maintaining muscle mass is something I’ve been particularly mindful of. Weight loss doesn’t just reduce body fat, you can lose muscle too, so getting enough protein, alongside staying active, can help support healthier body composition throughout the process.

I’ve found it slightly more difficult as I don’t like yoghurt, which can be an easy thing to get in higher protein. I have been adding extra chicken to meals, eating eggs more regularly and I’ve found a protein milkshake I really like.

Using Protein Powder to Help

There are still some days when I know I haven’t eaten enough protein, particularly if I’ve had a smaller appetite than usual.

That’s where protein powder has become a really useful addition to my routine.

I’ve started using whey protein powder from Naked Nutrition because it offers a simple way to increase my protein intake without having to eat another full meal when I’m already feeling full.

I tend to blend it into a smoothie or simply mix it with milk. It’s an easy option on those days when I know my protein intake could do with a boost.

It’s not something I rely on for every meal, nor do I see it as a replacement for eating a varied diet. Instead, I use it as a convenient supplement to help me consistently hit my protein goals when whole foods alone don’t quite get me there.

It’s about building better habits

One thing I’ve been really conscious of throughout this journey is that I don’t want these changes to be temporary.

For me, Mounjaro isn’t just about losing weight. It’s giving me the opportunity to rethink some of the habits I’d fallen into over the years.

I’m learning to recognise genuine hunger, to stop eating when I’m satisfied rather than overfull, and to choose foods that nourish my body instead of simply filling a gap in the day.

Those are habits I hope will stick around long after I stop taking the medication.

My thoughts after eight weeks

I’m still very much at the beginning of this journey, but after eight weeks I already feel like my relationship with food is changing in ways I didn’t necessarily expect.

The constant thoughts about snacking have quietened, I’m paying much more attention to the nutritional value of my meals and I’m making a conscious effort to prioritise protein as part of my overall health.

Everyone’s experience with Mounjaro will be different, and what works for me won’t necessarily work for someone else. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt so far, it’s that sustainable weight loss isn’t just about eating less, it’s about making the food you do eat work harder for your body.

I think if you are not hungry it is important to make sure you are getting enough protien. This does sound like a great whey powder!

I am so with you when it comes to snacking…. I am the worst at that and lately have just not been buying the junk. If I do not have it around I go without it LOL. I love the sound of this protein mix and am a huge fan of Naked Nutrition so I will check this one out. If it helps to keep me satisfied throughout the day it will be a win win.
