I feel like buying gifts for little ones is one of the most fun parts of Christmas shopping. There are so many toys, books and little gadgets out there, but I always think the best gifts are the ones that children will actually enjoy playing with, whether that’s something interactive, something to encourage their imagination or something practical that parents will appreciate too.
With so many options to choose from, I’ve pulled together a few gift ideas for babies, toddlers and older children, including some fun character toys, sensory finds and gifts for little book lovers.
If you’re still looking for inspiration for the little ones in your life, here are some ideas to add to your Christmas shopping list.
The LEGO Mini Puzzle Surprise Minifigure is a fun little gift for children who love LEGO and enjoy a bit of a mystery. Each pack contains a surprise 100-piece puzzle, with six different designs to collect. You won’t know which character you’ve got until you open the packaging and put the puzzle together.
I love the idea of this as a stocking filler or a little extra to add to a bigger present. It’s something children can sit down and work on, rather than just another toy that gets played with for five minutes before being forgotten about. And with six different designs available, there’s also the fun of seeing which one you get.
It’s suitable for children aged six and over, so great for school-age children who enjoy puzzles and building things. This particular one is going straight into Luke’s stocking this year (thankfully he never reads these!)
If you’ve got a little Disney fan to buy for, the Many Moods Mini toys are a really fun option. There are three characters to choose from: Stitch, Angel and Heihei from Moana.
These aren’t just figures to sit on a shelf. The Stitch and Angel toys react to touch and movement, with lots of different sounds, giggles, expressions and movements to discover. Children can stroke their heads, rub their bellies and move them around to see how they respond. They’re packed with personality for such little toys, making them a fun choice for children who love interactive play.
At around £25 each, they’re suitable for children aged three and over. I’d imagine these would go down particularly well with little ones who already love the movies, and they’re small enough to take along on trips or to a friend’s house. Maybe this is an excuse for me to show Scarlett Lilo & Stitch (a personal fav of mine!)
You could choose just one character or pick up a couple for a Disney fan who loves collecting their favourite characters.
You can’t go too far wrong with a familiar character when buying for young children, and the Sesame Street Tickle Me Elmo Giggle Max Interactive Toy is all about bringing the laughs.
This is a larger interactive Elmo plush, measuring around 48cm tall. Tickle his belly or either foot and he’ll start giggling, moving his arms up and down, opening and closing his mouth and shaking with laughter. He also says funny phrases, making the whole thing even more entertaining.
Scarlett loves Sesame Street already and her grandparents have already picked her up own Elmo. There’s something about a toy that laughs along with a child that makes playtime feel even more fun.
It’s a good option if you’re looking for a main present rather than a small stocking filler, and it’s the sort of gift that could provide plenty of laughs for the whole family on Christmas morning.
I’m always a fan of gifts that encourage little ones to explore and discover things, and the Nursery Times Crinkly Newspaper from The Little Sensory Bag Co. is such a lovely idea for babies and toddlers.
Designed to look like a little newspaper, this soft cloth book has a crinkly texture that makes it interesting for little hands to explore. The dinosaur-themed design features colourful illustrations and simple text, making it a fun way to introduce little ones to colours and encourage them to engage with books.
Priced at £15, it’s a lovely alternative to a traditional board book, especially for younger babies who are still discovering different textures and sounds. It’s lightweight and easy to take out and about, whether you’re heading to a family member’s house or popping it into a changing bag to keep little ones entertained.
I also think it’s a nice option for a baby’s first Christmas or a present for someone who wants to give something a little different from the usual soft toy.
If you’re buying for a child who loves books, the Cuddly Readers Tablet Stand and Book Holder from Thinking Gifts combines reading with a cuddly companion.
These soft plush characters are designed to hold books, tablets and e-readers, making it easier for children to settle down comfortably with their favourite story or screen. They also have handy storage pockets for keeping books and little accessories close by. The range includes characters such as a sloth, unicorn, dinosaur and several other cute designs.
At £24.99, I think this is a particularly nice present for children who enjoy getting cosy with a book at bedtime or having some quiet time during the day. It also makes a fun gift for a child who enjoys watching programmes or playing games on a tablet, as the stand helps support the device rather than them having to hold it.
It’s not just another cuddly toy to add to the collection, as it has a purpose too, and the different characters mean you can pick one that suits the child you’re buying for. And as a bookworm myself I really hope that Scarlett grows into one too.
Anyone with a toddler knows that snacks can become a pretty big part of the day. Whether you’re heading out for a walk, packing a nursery bag or trying to keep little ones happy on a long car journey, having snacks ready to go can make life easier.
The Munchkin Snack Wheel is a practical gift for toddlers and their parents. Priced at £14.99, it has four main compartments for keeping different foods separate, along with a removable central compartment for dips, yoghurt or dressings. There’s also a rotating lever that little hands can use to move between the sections.
Scarlett is a grazer so this is perfect as she enjoys having a few different options to choose from. You can add fruit, crackers, vegetables and little treats without everything getting mixed together.
It also comes with a carry strap, making it handy for days out, picnics and trips to nursery. It’s one of those gifts that parents will appreciate just as much as the little ones, because anything that makes getting out of the house a bit easier is a win in my book.
If you’re looking for a gift that’s both cute and comforting, the Warmies Teletubbies collection is such a lovely idea for little ones who love these familiar characters.
You can choose from Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po and even Noo-Noo, with each plush designed to be heated in the microwave to provide soothing warmth. They’re also gently scented with real French lavender, making them perfect for cosy cuddles on chilly evenings or settling down for some quiet time.
At £29.99 each, they’re a little different from your usual soft toy and would make a lovely Christmas present for any young Teletubbies fan.
Whether you’re shopping for a baby’s first Christmas, a toddler who’s discovering the world or an older child who loves LEGO and Disney, there are plenty of ways to find something a little different this year.
I like this mix because it includes a bit of everything, from sensory play and reading to interactive toys and practical gifts that can make everyday family life easier. You don’t always need to buy the biggest or most expensive present to find something that a child will love.
Hopefully, these ideas have given you a little inspiration if you’re still working through your Christmas shopping list.
