We’re just one month and two days away from Christmas it feels a little crazy. I’m doing reasonably well with my present buying and what I don’t have I’ve got some good ideas for. When it gets to this point I like to wait a few extra days for Black Friday to see what deals I can find. If you’re planning to do the same here are my top shopping tips for Black Friday. I tend to find the men in my life slightly harder to buy for than women so I’m always in need of a bit of help. If you’re in a similar situation then my gift guide for him may come in handy for you.
Opihr Gin is one of the brands that my dad loves as it’s a bit spicy and quite different from the other gins out there. Until I spotted this set I had no idea there was more than one type of Opihr gin. Tasting sets like this which allow you to try out multiple flavours/ styles are great options for presents. Each of the bottles in this set brings the taste of a slightly different region.
This set comes with a bottle of the original Oriental Spiced Ophir in the blue bottle. Then there’s the Arabian edition ‘Black Lemons’ in the green bottles. It’s a citrus and spice-led gin with Persian black lemons mixed with the flavour of Timut peppers. Then there’s the Far East edition ‘Szechuan Pepper’ in the red bottle. This is a bold more spiced gin with Szechuan peppers and Ajwain. The three gins are all distinctly different and is a great way to try out some new flavours.
You can pick up the set for £11.90 from Amazon here.
Practical items made fun make for great Christmas presents as you can pull on the novelty factor while still going for something that will get used. The crab office multi-tool* (£16.99) falls straight into that category. When you see the crab with his claws out you can’t help but smile, it’s a really nice and fun design but it’s also super handy.
The multi-tool has a variety of stainless steel appendages including mini scissors, a flat head screwdriver, a bottle opener, a mini knife, a rope saw, and a can opener.
Socks are one of those presents you almost always get in a gift guide for him. Most men get socks at Christmas to stock up, but these are anything but regular socks. This is the 6 pieces Beatles 50th-anniversary yellow submarine LP collectors gift boxed socks* (£59.95). 50 years ago in July, the animated likenesses of The Beatles set sail across the world’s cinema screens in their Yellow Submarine. So the Sock Shop couldn’t let the anniversary go without a celebration. And that’s where the limited edition sock set comes from.
The set is beautiful with vibrant designs showing elements of the film including flower power and of course the submarine itself. This set is an easy way to make getting socks exciting and cool. If you know a big Beatles fan then this may be the present for them. But if you don’t the Sock Shop has plenty more designs to make you smile.
It’s pretty much a given that every Christmas men will get both pants and socks. And the pants I wanted to include are from a sustainable brand, Bamingo. They have a premium selection of bamboo items including socks, pants, t-shirts, and PJs. The great thing about bamboo is that it’s a more sustainable alternative to cotton and it allows the skin to breathe all day keeping you fresh.
The two-pack of Paul Boxers* (£34.99) are slim fit and are super soft with stretchy fabric so they’re super comfortable. I’ve got the grey pair of boxers, but they come in a variety of different colours.
While it might not be my favourite combination, most of the men in my life seem to love a good stinky cheese and a glass of port after dinner. This Graham’s port and cheese platter* (£27.90) feature a 20cl bottle of Grahams 10 Year Old Port and a wedge of Stilton Cheese accompanied with crunchy Sourdough Crispbreads to enjoy it with. The set comes complete on a Round Bamboo Cheeseboard.
The set itself looks beautiful and makes the idea of an after-dinner cheese and port a bit more special. The cheeseboard makes a great addition as the present can be opened and used right away. And the board itself feels sturdy and long-lasting.
Sweet treats are a must for all of the men in my life from chocolate to gummies. Buyagift have just started doing gifts and hampers alongside their experience gifts so you can get your treat posted directly to the recipient. I grabbed this liquorice sweet collection* (£16) because my grandad is obsessed with liquorice.
This particular box can be personalised with the name of your choice on the front. And it features over 700g of treats including the traditional liquorice allsorts but also toffees, twists and so much more. One of the things I love most about this is that each small pack of treats inside is individually wrapped. So you can open one up and keep everything else fresh.
It isn’t just women who can enjoy a good charm bracelet, there’s plenty of choices out there for men too. If the man in your life loves to travel then the El Camino bracelet may be just the gift you’re looking at. This cord style bracelet comes in a variety of sizes to suit any wrist size and you can get charms for cities and locations like the smaller silver ones I have, or the wider ones are countries. I have Edinburgh, Venice, and Saint Lucia as my places as they all have special memories attached to them. The coloured ones are for different seas and oceans which can bright a burst of colour to the bracelet. You can even get custom made charms as well.
The great thing is everyone’s bracelet will be different and tell a story bursting with memories. The quality is there as well as high strength cord is used for the bracelets themselves. All of the glass beads are handmade in England, hand-polished surgical steel is used for the clasps and charms, and the spacers are made from sustainably sourced woods and coconut.
The Youth Management Kit* (£53.96) is a great routine for any man who wants to take better care of their skin. If 2020 has taught us anything it’s the art of self-care and pampering yourself. This kit contains five products to help clean your pores, hydrate and pamper your skin and combat under-eye bags and wrinkles.
The Youth Management Kit contains Charcoal Pore strips which are so satisfying to do. Next, there’s an intensive repair face mask which will help clean and hydrate your skin. Then there’s a dark circle defense eye cream to keep the under eyes brightened, and an anti-wrinkle serum in a rollerball form which can be rolled over problem areas. And finally, there’s a hydrating face mist which can be used at any time of the day.
The kit is a really great starter for any man who wants to start taking skincare more seriously. But also it’s great for anyone who just loves to pamper their skin. When you go through you input the age range of the recipient and their skin type as some of the products may be slightly tailored to that specification which I love as skincare is so personal.
We moved into our own home earlier this year and now know the challenge of finding the right artwork to fill the space with. But one thing I think is important is to have a connection to the artwork as opposed to having random pictures. Perhaps it’s a photograph or a place you’ve been to, or perhaps it’s from your favourite movie franchise. And that’s where this Captain Phasma fine art print* (£66) printed by Vanhalla Studios and produced by Pulse Gallery comes in.
Each and every fine art print from Pulse Gallery is limited edition and comes numbered with a certificate of authenticity. With this particular piece, there were only 250 pieces of the silkscreen edition created. Knowing something is so limited and unique makes it even more special in my mind. I will apologise for the state of it in the frame above, just as I was taking the photos it moved and dropped in the frame.
Pulse Gallery has a whole range of fine artwork on offer so if Star Wars isn’t your thing there are original production Disney pieces, Simpsons, Futurama, Harry Potter, DC and so much more. So whatever your love is there’s likely to be artwork for you.
Gin is a pretty big deal which is why I have another gin recommendation for you; this time its Mermaid gin* (£37.75) This is the signature gin from the Isle of Wight Distillery and is inspired by its lead botanical rock samphire, known locally as ‘mermaids kiss’ which is where its name comes from. It’s a smooth, refreshing gin with a mixture of fresh citrus and sweet spice running through it.
One of the great things about this gin is it has been certified as completely Plastic-Free by A Plastic Planet and awarded first place in the IWSC Design. The bottle is made from recyclable glass with a sustainably sourced natural cork stopper and a compostable tamper-proof seal. Alongside being plastic-free the brand supports marine conservation projects.
If you’ve got the main gifts sorted but just need some stocking filler ideas then these Lynx Car Air Fresheners* (Starting at £3.99) would be a great addition. There are loads of different styles from vents to gel cans but they’ll all leave the car smelling fresh in a whole host of Lynx scents including Africa, Ice Chill, and Dark Temptation.
The gel can car freshener can be put in your cup holder, door pocket, or any other spot to keep the car fresh. And the vent ones are understated and made from high-quality ceramic so will look nice attached to the vent. All of the scents last for around 30 days and it’s well worth it for a fresh-smelling car.
