There’s no doubt that the world is far more fast paced than it’s ever been before so while the idea of self-care is a massive buzz it can be hard to properly implement it into your life on a very daily basis. I’d like to think that I am quite a mentally strong self-assured person but I still have some poor mental health days. Those days when you just need a good cry or you feel like everythings mounting on top of you and you have no escape.
Sometimes the cure is no longer than a good cry with a bar of chocolate before crawling into bed and having a long sleep I do find that there are things which help me feel mentally strong and give me that push to carry on with my head held high.
If I feel relaxed and cared for then I feel mentally strong so having a good old pamper session is the perfect way to help my mind and body. My typical pamper routine is spending some time doing my skincare by taking off my makeup and giving my face a good cleanse before putting on a proper face mask. I use sheet masks as a quick fix but during a pamper session I find liquid face masks so much better. While this is happening I’ll make sure to run a bath which I fill with products including bath salts, bath oil, melts, bubble bath and a bath bomb. Then once I’m in the bath it’s about relaxing, soaking and reading a good magazine.
There are times when I need to be alone but other times I feel mentally strong by having people around me, it just depends on the situation which has made me feel negative and my exact state of mind. I seem to know a lot of people but I’m going to admit I don’t have a core of die hard bestest pals which makes me a little sad so when I do feel down it can be tough to know where to turn but having that support is one of the best ways to feel stronger and happier. If I don’t feel up to seeing people sometimes just dropping a message to an old friend and starting a conversation can make me feel miles better.
I am a huge bookworm but don’t read as much as I’d like so reading makes me feel mentally strong and refreshed. Delving into another world or another person’s thoughts can separate your own ones out and clear your mind of thoughts which could be plaguing you. I find reading is really therapeutic and relaxing so it helps me to remain calm and collected even if it’s just for 15 minutes before I go to sleep.
Of course I can’t just phone into work and take time out but when it comes to freelance/ blog work I always make sure I enough scheduled and planned that I can just take a few days out if I need it. I know that a lot of people don’t have this pleasure and can feel really guilty about taking time out but at the end of the day sometimes you have to be a bit selfish and do what works for you. By taking a day out you could feel more refreshed, motivated and creative which can mean the work you’re slogging through now could take a fraction of the time and be even better just by taking time out.

I always use Sunday as a ‘me’/life admin day. I have a lay in, have a nice lunch/dinner with family and then generally spend the afternoon and/or evening doing life admin like all typing up blog posts, planning my lunches for the week etc. Because I take it slow (and usually do all this in lazy clothes!) I still feel like I get a relaxing day/weekend whilst also being prepped for the week ahead x
Walking really helps me to lift my mood too. Being out and about in the fresh air is a really good way to relax
Getting a pampering whether at home or at a spa is always something that cheers me up and spending time with family is high on my list.
For me, when I create stuff it makes me feel mentally strong. Just small things like cooking a good meal or finsihing a cross stitch project because I know I did that!
This is a good post. It reminds me that I need to take time out to make me extra strong. I think taking time out from work is super important for me too..even a day is good. It really does refresh me.
Love this post. Being able to be on top of my life makes me mentally strong. Having a firm hold on all of the spinning plates at once!
Reading is a good way to escape, I enjoy that. I’m trying to disconnect from work as much as possible lately – it’s needed for mental health
You have this spot on! Pamper sessions really help, but stepping away from work from time to time deffo helps and if you are anything like me – I think you are – you are always working away…even if it is just checking up on emails etc x
I always find a brisk walk along the beach or a bike ride helps me
September is all about self care so I’m loving reading this! I agree that all of these make me feel mentally strong š I also meditate and take quiet time out for myself x
Taking a bit of time out to relax is so important to recharge. I love reading books as well and escaping for a while
Having a pamper is a fantastic idea. I love to read too
All those things build me up as well, reading is probably my favourite, especially in a coffee shop withb a nice piece of cake! Mich x
I love to spend time with family and friends when I can. I work long hours so it can be difficult but it really does help me get away from the computer work and rest my mind a little.
I have to say I agree with all of these – I always feel stressed and on edge when I’m not giving myself time to relax, re-charge and socialise away from work – so important to look after one self and mental health

Talking to friends and family who encourage and talk positive have a great impact on our lives!
I really enjoyed reading this. It’s made me think about what I need to make time for to improve my mindset. I think it’s time for a pamper
I love this post! Reading a good book always makes me feel better, I love escaping to another world.
