*This blog post is part of a Debenhams beauty campaign
but all thoughts and opinions are my own
The renovations on Watford’s town centre seems to have been going on forever but finally last Thursday the main space was unveiled and the space’s first store opened which was Debenhams. I am a huge Debenhams fan and I’m so happy to finally have one in my hometown, especially as it’s a new flagship store.
Alongside the opening Debenhams have launched their beauty club community platform which is a forum where users can discuss all things beauty from recommendations, tips and tricks and their favourite products. For me I love reading others experiences and recommendations on products as the last thing you want to do is shell out loads of money and find out the product isn’t for you.
On opening day there was a lot of activities including food drinks, prosecco, gin sampling, beauty goodie bags, beauty talks, mini treatments and so much more. Sadly as I was working I couldn’t get there for opening but I headed there at 6.15pm after work to see what it was all about. The lovely PR’s left me out a little goodie bag which has some really nice products which I can’t wait to check out and then it was time to see the finished result.
The store itself is really incredible with a homeware space including a Swoon stand which I could have easily spent all day in alongside great womens, mens and kids clothing ranges, bags and accessories and so much more. It’s one of those stores I’m sure I missed aspects of as I didn’t spot the Prosecco Bar or the Blow Dry stand so I’ll need to head back to seek these out.
After having an initial look around the shop and finding myself on their full floor of beauty I took a step back and stopped at the Pinkster’s Gin stand for a Gin Cocktail which got me in the mood for some spending. This brings us onto my mini beauty haul from Debenhams which began at the Kiehls stand.
I’m going to hold my hands up and say that I’ve never tried anything from Kiehls before but it’s one of those brands I have been meaning to try out as so many people rave about them. I knew I wanted the Glow Formula Skin Hydrator and it’s not only hydrating on the skin but it’s meant to give you a lovely glow and from trying it out in store it felt like a dream so I can’t wait to fit this into my routine.
I chatted with the ladies on the stand who recommended some great products for my skin which are now on my wishlist for the future including the Cucumber Toner which should help my drier patches.
The other Kiehls product I picked up was a mini of the Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque as I’ve never tried a pollution defending mask but I know it’s something my skin will thank me for as I live and work in quite a built up area alongside spending a lot of time in London where pollution levels are crazy.
I picked this up from the beauty station which is pretty much like the Sephora aisle of doom by the till filled up with loads of minis and travel sized products. I know it’s not always the best value to buy smaller versions but I think they’re a great way to try out new products.
Next up was a stop at the Benefit Stall as I wanted to have a look at the new Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation. I always used to use full coverage foundations but now I actually like to flit between light-medium coverage during the day which is what drew me to this foundation.
The staff on the stand were on hand to help me pick out my right shade which I definitely would have gotten wrong if they hadn’t been there to help. We had a chat about whether the foundation was good for people with dry skin and the lady said if you’re very dry it’s not one for you but if it’s just small bits like me then as long as you use a good primer and moisturiser it would be fine which is always good to know.
Next up was another mini of the Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara. When this first came out I wasn’t that impressed as it just seemed like yet another mascara launch but since then a lot of people have been raving about this so I thought it only seemed right to give it a go, especially as I’ve tried all the previous Benefit Mascaras.
Benefit are one brand which do really well in the mini’s department as almost all of their products come in smaller sizes which is always good for travelling/ trying out.
The final product I nabbed was the Kat Von D Dagger Eyeliner which is from the tattoo liner collection which is my favourite liquid eyeliner but this has been designed to help with application and to create a great cat eye. This is done with a tip which has been cut with a 30 degree edge so it helps you to get straight lines, and this is something I desperately need as even at 28 years old I still can’t apply it properly so hopefully this will help.
There were a few other products that I wanted to get but they were sold out due to such demand during the day including the Too Faced – ‘Primed and Peachy’ skin perfecting face primer and the Origins – ‘United State™’ Balancing Tonic but I’m planning on making another trip in very soon.
