My make up collection is pretty extensive, it’s one of those things I love to collect so it therefore means I have a lot of products in all categories, even ones I don’t use often like bronzers. I do like to swap up bits of my make up depending on how my skin is feeling or how I want my makeup to look, but generally I have my key go to products, they’re the ones I’ll always want with me when I go away or I’ll find myself reaching for day-in-day-out. Take a look at some of my makeup essentials.
Base and Face
I always wear a primer even if it’s all I wear on my face and the Too Faced Hangover Face Primer is my go to as it’s so hydrating on my skin especially in the winter time when my face gets even drier than usual. The cream itself isn’t thick and doesn’t have long to sink into the skin which is something that I find off putting when using thicker creams and you don’t really need much of it to cover the whole face.
The It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream was something I only tried for the first time a few months back but I couldn’t be without it now. It served me really well in the summer when I basically stopped wearing full foundations as it was just melting off, but it’s also been great in the colder months as my skins been able to breathe underneath. The tube itself is really lightweight and I love having the pump, although I do find that the packaging isn’t particularly good quality as a lot of the outside has scraped/ peeled off. The CC Cream has SPF 50+ which is a game changer for me as it saves me that extra step in my routine.
Concealer wise I am still pretty obsessed with the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer as although it’s full coverage it’s really lightweight, as the name suggests and it doesn’t make my delicate under-eye skin look cakey. I have quite bad dark circles so it takes a lot for a concealer to work well and this does the job perfectly without being too overpowering.
Now onto the eyes. I go through phases with eye shadow and don’t wear it religiously everyday but generally when I do wear it I gravitate towards the Zoeva Rose Golden Eye shadow Palette as the formulas of the shadows are so buttery and easy to blend even though it’s quite an affordably priced palette. There’s such a good selection of golden and rose coloured shades which are my ultimate favourites, and there’s a really nice light burgundy which has been my go to during the Autumn/ Winter months. One thing I love about this palette is that a lot of the shades are shimmery so you get a bit of sparkle without full on glitter.
I couldn’t choose just one mascara so I have two, one is the Nouba Volumaxi* as it’s so voluminous which is my number one want from a mascara. It has a wider brush at the base and it does thin at the edges so you won’t get too much stuck in the corner of your eyes and you can use the smaller end for the corners. It’s a deep proper black colour and gives you such a thick look to your lashes.
The other mascara choice I have is the Benefit Bad Girl Bang Mascara which I wasn’t expecting to like as much as I have. The wand is flexible which means it’s so easy to manoeuvre into all the corners and it makes applying it feel nicer to your wrist. The actual formula is really nice as it’s quite thick and gives such a full look to the lashes without being clumpy. At the moment I only have a mini version of this so once I’ve used up some other ones I need to purchase a full size version.
The other eye product I always find myself reaching for is Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara although having read reviews online it doesn’t seem that everyone else is loving it like I have been. This is essentially a mini mascara with a tiny wand specifically for your lower lashes and for me it’s a game changer as I love putting a little mascara on my bottom lashes and it’s so hard to get right with a normal wand. This wand means you don’t pick up too much product so no gloopy bits and it’s small enough that you can properly see what you’re doing.
Hourglass blushers are my ultimate favourites and I have a trio palette which includes a coral peach colour, a mauve and a more bronze toned colour. Sadly you can’t get the palette I have anymore but the closest is the Volume 4 Edit which is stunning with added highlighters. I find this set so versatile as the shades cover pretty much all the bases you could want and as it has a slight shimmer in it (although nothing too much) it gives me a nice glow meaning I can wear it without highlighter if I like.
Although I rarely ever miss out highlighter as a step as I love to glitter and glow. My go to is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Champagne Pop. You only need a quick slight sweep of this to get great colour and a nice glow as it’s so pigmented, because of this I’ve found that mine has been lasting for absolute ages. It’s feels so nice on my skin and doesn’t feel drying like some pressed powders do and it blends so well into the skin, so much so that sometimes I just have this urge to brush it all over my face.
