*I was provided the Centre of Excellence course free of charge
in exchange for this post but all thoughts and opinions are my own
As an adult I’ve come to see the importance of learning, something that you don’t fully appreciate when you’re at school and it’s being force fed to you whether you like it or not. There’s a bit more choice at university but for me I went to university as I wanted a degree and I did something I enjoyed as opposed to knowing what I wanted to do as a ‘career’. Over the three year period I don’t genuinly think I actually learnt anything so other than a BA Hons I don’t really have a lot to show for my 3 years.
But I’ve never wanted to stop learning, from the second I finished university back in 2011 (god that’s scary!) I’ve done a number of online courses partially for self-development in journalism and writing but some for pure enjoyment and brain power like events planning and an introduction to law. I think it’s so important to continue learning both to continuing learning and keeping your mind supple, but also to continue improving and striving for more in your field.
Over the years I did a number of digital marketing and social media marketing courses I am a convinced that they helped me get my first marketing assistant role. I’ve spoken more about my online course history in another post which gives you an idea of everything I’ve done post university.
As someone who both works in content for a full-time job, but also blogs I know the value in learning as much as I can about the field. Even if you land on your feet and are muddling along just fine there’s always more to learn and I want to be the absolute best I can be and exceed both my own goals and expectations but also those of any clients I go on to work with.
One of the latest courses I have started is the Freelance Writer Business Diploma from the Centre of Excellence. The main thing which stood out to me on this course was that there was a full module purely on blog writing which is something I have never seen included in an online course before. While there are lots of similarities between blog writing and traditional journalism it was so refreshing to see something dedicated to the medium of thousands of people especially with parts of blogging for employers and WordPress which are sections that are pretty unique.
As a platform the Centre of Excellence is all about e-learning and courses are led by leading industry experts with plenty of experience who are certified, accredited or have recognised qualiications so you know you’re getting high quality learning. The thing I love most about online learning is how flexible it is around your schedule, if you work full-time you can do this in the evenings or at the weekends. If midnight study sessions are your bag then you can do just that and go through the materials and assessments in a way that best suits you. In a world where everything is digital and we all have everything at our fingertips it’s so importance for education and training to be the same.
The online modules and courses are really easy to dip in and out of and each section is bitesize, so if you only have 20 minutes spare at a time that’s fine you can do a section alongside the workbooks, videos and audio sections. For me module/ section size is very important as it’s rare I’ll have a few hours blocked out where I can sit and purely spend on something like this so working in bite sized chunks works for me, but for others you might want to sit down for a day and do a few modules at once, and you can!
There are over 1,000 online courses available and if you’re interested in doing any of the Centre of Excellence courses you can use the code ‘RHIAN60’ which will give you a massive 60% off all online courses.

I love the look of this. I want to get back to studying, just not sure I have time
That’s the great thing about online courses you can take as long as you want to finish them x
As someone who used to be a teacher, I love online courses! They are great for accessibility and are generally well priced too
how fab for a course online to give blogging a boost. It sounds really interesting with some great modules š x
I’d love to go back to studying in order to get a few more skills under my belt. I like that this can be completed online
The course looks super comprehensive but approachable as well. I cant say I am a new blogger but I honestly think a refresher does us no harm and get more valuable information.
Totally agree, and I think there’s always more to learn even when you’re not a beginner x
This sounds like a brilliant course – I love that there is a whole module on blogging! I am looking at taking an online course too. Kaz
I’ve taken Centre of Excellence courses in the past but this one seems like a really interesting approach! I’ll have to check what they have available atm as they seem to have included new things. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah there are so many great choices out there, great to hear you’ve done one of their courses before x
This sounds a fab course, I love that there’s a blogging element to it as well. I sometimes do online courses, I like to keep on learning too. For fun as well as business.
Sounds like a great course. Always good to develop self and keep the mind active x
These sound great! I am doing a Digital Mums course at the moment. I don’t think you can ever learn too much! š
I think as adults we understand the importance of learning and continued education for future successes. This course looks like an excellent approach.
